AYRTON SENNA

Ayrton Senna 21/03/1960 to 1/04/1994

I will always remember him- for me he will always be the best!!!

A true champion whose life was cut to short when he was fataly killed at the Imola circuit in San Marino in 1994!!

14 years later his legend lives on!!!

Don’t understand quite why this got posted, but since it’s here all of a sudden,

I’ll agree ONE of the better G.P. drivers.

The “who was the best…” is a favourite subject amongs G.P. buffs. I’m with the school that says you can’t compare, say, one decade with another.

Before the two wheels only lot start snorting, who was the best motorcycle racer ever?

A bit random innit?

it was on the 1st of may that he was killed at Imola !!

Makes sense now:cool:

its in Midggy’s post, on the first line start and finish…

Agree its difficult to compare…I think the real heros’ were the front engined pre and early post war drivers…skinny tyres massive power…

Read it again mate;):Whistling:

To me he was a hero and i admired him as a great racer and gentleman of the sport.

Not sure about the gentleman bit John. Senna didn’t worry about taking people out if he had to (Prost mostly!). He wasn’t as vilified as a certain German for doing it though!! Probably would have been if the other driver was English!!

How about Herr Schumacher on two wheels though? He seem’s to have a hell of a talent on both four and two.

Schumacher was here in Budapest at a track dy a couple of weeks ago…very quick:)

Arrived in his private jet, met the lads and did a few laps and flew away again:w00t:

Senna was a great driver - I remember watching the race in a little bar in Corfu and being stunned by his death…Lets not forget Roland Ratzenberger who died that same weekend…

It’s difficult to say who is the best in a sport that has changed technologically so much over the decades.

Would Schumacher have been so good in the type of car driven by Stirling Moss or John Surtees?

Who knows?

Certainly Senna was good, not sure he was the best.

Big respect for John Surtees and Mike Hailwood who were a racing success with 4 wheels as well as 2.

+1

I remember reading an old article once about when Moss crashed out of the Mille Miligia; and while he was trudging up the road to the nearest station in full racing overalls to catch a train to the finish Fangio (who was still in the race and had been trading places aggressively with Moss since the start) stopped by and offered him a lift! Can you imagine that happening today? God I wish I’d lived in the fifties!

Almost as good as Nuvolari driving all night in the same race some years previously with all his lights off so’s the bloke in the lead couldn’t see him coming! Sigh…

My favourite Senna moment, though, has to be overtaking Prost (not to mention Schumacher, Hill and some other driver) within one lap of Donnington! The man was truly an amazing figure!

Should not forget Roland Ratzenberger as well, killed on the Saturday, and poor old Barrichello nasty’s accident on the Friday - a black weekend for motorsport.
