Picking up my New… well Newish Kawasaki ZRX1200s on Monday. It’s got a Brand New Pair of Avon Storms on it… Anyone used them? Grip, Wet Weather… life span…I have always had BridgestoneBT 020’s on my other 600cc+ bikes… And I have Michelin Road Pilots on my CBF500 runabout…
Anyone got anything to say about the Avons… I’m not really a hooligan if that helps…
I have them on the R1 and they’re lasting very well, grip well in the wet and dry, I’m impressed so far
they’re profile isn’t as steep as fast road tyres so they don’t help with changing of direction but feel planted once you’re over and give you confidence for knee down antics etc
I have tried many other tyres, even part worn supercorsas thinking I was saving cash
these look like they will outlast a few sets of supercorsas and so in the long run are better value
I do have them on my TL. It’s a torquey beast but the tyres hold well. Bags of confidence on them. I asked about wear rate and was told 6-8k, then my mate in the tyre shop said more like 5-6k the way I ride and he was bang on.
I’ve noticed alot of more powerful bikes have them fitted.
I may try a set of Dunlop Roadsmarts though. I have a set on my Fazer, I know it’s much smaller but I can’t fault them and they seem to be wearing well. Great in he wet but like all tyres get a bit of temperature in them (don’t want to teach a granny to suck eggs though).
