I am going to fit the new back brake lever that I have on Saturday, however, without even taking any of the parts off, I know that I am going to need assistance with taking off the springs. Can anyone spare me half an hour on Saturday to help me with this? I live in NW9.
Probably - what sort of time? Do you have all the tools?
Alex
Yes I believe that I have all the tools required. What time are you available, I would prefer to do this in the morning, but as you have offered to help, the choice is yours
If I was local, I would be more than happy to assist!
I’m not familiar with that particular bike, but you should only need a spanner to remove the bolt holding the brake lever. The spring shouldn’t need any tools, other than a little force to push it back into position?!
Let me know how you get on.
Zine
Thank you for the offer, I don’t have the strength to take the spring off usually, found this out when I changed one of the pegs
Need to be careful of part: BS1008 can be a tricky little bugger
I’m thick, I have no idea what you mean, or what this is meant to read. Just BS I can understand

BS is the best bit - it’s what I’m full of! :w00t:
Promise no more wind ups

I’ll be working on my bike about 10amish or earlier, give me a shout if all else fails, I’m over in Kilburn. My bike’s sorta similarish so shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
Bish-bash-bosh…job is, indeed, a good’un
And a big thank you to Alex G for his help with this. BTW the bike has now been washed and has 2 coats of polish on her
Too late for this post, but might be of help to others in the future.
Stretch the spring by holding down the lever.
1: If it’s coil spring that stretches out, pack the gaps with washer, loose change, whatever. (Spring type clothes pegs taken apart are good as they’re wedge shaped*)
2: If it’s a “hair spring” (like the things in cloths pegs) get some garden wire under the lever end, then stretch the spring and tie off the wire to something like a rear wheel spoke/rim/whatever.
Now the spring loading is out of the way, the job’s simple.
- Those half clothes pegs are also great for holding back the brake calliper pistons when you have to drop out a wheel.
Just dont put them back together and return them to the peg bag. Get 'orrible greasy marks on you shirts if they get re used.
