I want a yellow one!

what does PS stand for in the power fig? do they mean bhp? or is it a different term for the same thing?

told you it was 180 not 198 tho Jay

Simon would like that, a buddy to park his bike next to

PS = Pferdestärke, (German for “horsepower”) - a unit of power, it’s what most manufacters use now, that and NM (Newton Metres) for torque.

198? Dunno what you’re talking about mate

lol mate, amnesia is handy at times eh?

cheers good knowledge. Seems an amazing pointless thing to change - HP to PS?

it does sound like they’ve made some useful improvements to the block and transmission have to say. still think the looks have gone a bit wrong tho - looks a bit like my old bike after i bent it!

It’s all about the 2008 R1.

10 years of the YZF-R1 and this will be the ‘real’ 1.

Real traction control and lots of other tech stuff…Maybe real variable value technology.

If I’m bored of my 04 by then (very unlikely)…I’ll have a look

MUCH nicer than a Suzuki road bike!!!

runs away…

Heretic

Burn him…Burn him

But…remember PS is metric hp, NOT UK hp. The PS figure measures slightly higher than our hp value.

did we use a shetland pony or something?

I cant believe that it’s 19 pounds heavier than the suzuki.

Might have more power because it has the biggest bore and stroke of the big four…

Still think the suzuki is a lot more machine than this though

I think that for the road-rider, quite often more weight isn’t necessarily a bad thing, i.e. look at the Ducati 999’s. They’re considerably heavier than their Japanese counter-parts, yet everyone who rides one says how planted they are and how commited mid-corner they are. This could very well be down to the extra weight. A lighter bike is going to be more flighty by nature, especially when combined with a large power output that’s just going to want to twist and buck the bike.

Sport bikes should be on the ragged edge (mine are), that’s what makes them so much fun.

I definitely prefer lightness as it makes it a lot easier to transition, esp. through chicanes and such.

Personally think the new R1 in black looks the dogs *******s. Put my name down for a new one after the show.

Can someone really tell the difference between an R1 and Gixxer Thous weight when riding them back to back?

My R1 feels lighter than my R6 (2000 model) though the R6 is lighter, but doesn’t make use of mass centralisation.

Both Gixxer and R1 use this method of weight distribution so I’d imagine the weight differences wouldn’t be too obvious.

its sumthing like 0.83 bhp = 1 ps

sumthing like that

Yep … its nicer looking than the new Gixxer Thou!

You mostly tell the difference under braking into an hairpin. On the same bike … when you have added an extra stone, it will lengthen the braking distance by a yard to 2 yards, depending on the tyres you are running and the pressures. All things been equal with two different makes of Bike, the same applies.

Everyone has seen Pedrosa’s weight advantage under acceleration, if not yet perfected under braking.

Having run an couple of R1’s, the latest been an 04 model, I love the look of the 04 onwards, it really is the best looking of the Japanese marques and stock its a better riding position than Suzuki but … I have never had more front wheel slides than the 04 R1, no matter what I tried.

My mate has Ktec’d his and its still lacks the necessary feel, even on 16.5 inch rims and slicks. We think its the frame geometry and stiffness which has been reduced on the 06 onwards model.

I personally have more confidence in the front end of the Suzuki’s and as a result of that I have my name down for an 07 GSXR750. The 750 rather than the Litre bike because I can use the power and hook it up rather than sitting an spinning the rear.
