Are bikers spiritual?

As for bikers being materialistic, I’ll agree to that because I also fall into that category. I know nothing about bikes, I just genuinely like the way some of them look, and I want the latest must have because…and here’s where it comes full circle…I want the experience of it.

I will go to the next buddhist meeting, but won’t get sucked in by anything unless there is a free holiday

Buddism isn’t a cult. As long as you go to a proper Buddist place and not some scrotes house. I saw a show once, I think it was Charlie Brooker and it was watching another TV show involving some page 3 model going to a buddist retreat on some island, and she asked the Monk there what she might get from the experience and he took a long hard look at her and said…not much.

Which really cracked me up.

I’m on a bit of a journey, and have been for a little while. Thing is I’ve been coming across a few of them there ‘spiritual’ types and wierdly enough an awful lot of them appear to be bikers. It’s come up a few times whether there is something about the experience of being a biker that means that we seem to be more receptive, aware of the bigger picture.

I haven’t seen many bikers in dog collars at all

Well to be frank…following the lines of your logic…would 4x4 drivers then be even more spiritual, since they have 2 more wheels than us? :hehe:

I’m just throwing it out there. Maybe it’s because of the associated risks, that we are more aware of our own mortality and vulnerability, but are we more ‘spiritually aware’ as a community? Because that’s the crux of it really, that we are a community, with a binding sense of loyalty and an enourmous sense of perspective. It just seems that we come into two camps, the adrenaline junkies who are always pushing the boundaries of mortality and chasing a thrill in every aspect of their life, or those who appreciate life, who are in it for the experience and liberty and community.

There were some great perspectives on your question. ‘Thrill-seeking’ vs ‘spiritual awareness’ - both inhabit the same solo seat. Those who allow pillion riders are of course, in a different league

We might have a sense of binding loyalty (isn’t that geographical? cultural? social? rather than spiritual?).

I am not happy in any kind of ‘camp’! :laugh:

Well…I suppose those who are ‘truly’ spiritual - that is…who appreciate life and explore liberty and community:

a) stay out of prisons
b) stay out of London
c) grow their own vegetables in a rent-a-patch and have eco-friendly green issues

Otherwise…the spiritual bond between man and man (can’t be with man and woman … you know how guys really feel about so called ‘platonic’ relationships … trustworthiness…loyalty…honesty…courage…patience with one another … tolerance … mutual respect …

Yeah…that pretty much describes the bikers on the General Chat page.

Why do you ride?

I ride because I really enjoy it!

Sorry - there just is no profundity behind this. I really just like riding my motorcycle.

On second thoughts…I’m not feeling anything…honest! My hands are on the clutch and throttle. Can’t be doing that on a motorcycle
