Aprilia RSV4

E-mail sent to me from Aprilia with a link to the RSV4: http://www.rsv4aprilia.com/

I know pictures and details have already been posted on here but have not seen these

Maybe they think i’m going to come into some money soon  I’ll just have to keep on dreaming.

I don’t like what they have done with the rear end!

That red and black is gorrrrrrrrrrgus! I want one!

Wow - that thing is TINY… look at the footpeg position…that is a a bloody nice track bike that…

You know, I was in love with it, until I saw the power output. 177bhp at the crank. HUH!? They’re going to be NOWHERE with that. That’s like 150bhp at the rear wheel if you assume a 15% drive-train loss. My bike has 171bhp at the rear wheel. How can I can down 20bhp? Forget it.

I hope they’re doing a Ducati with those figures and it actually is more useful than it sounds.

have to remember that they are quoted road bike power figures. regulated by emissions laws, reliability of mechanical parts etc etc.

they have built a full on race winning race bike…then turned it into a road bike so will have detuned it, turned down the revs and made it cheap to manufacture with few of the internal bells and whistles of the WSB bike. It wouldn’t be a good bike in BSB this year due to the standard crank etc rules

But in WSB all this can be replaced with lairy cams, pistons etc etc. Thus cranking up the revs + unleashing a shed load of power. And with aprilias uncanny skilz at making increddible chasis this bike will be the best of the bunch.

A current example of this in practise is the current CBR600rr. Dog slow in stock trim compared to the R6 but which bike has the pedigree when it is tuned eh???

I appreciate that, but I thought the goal was to also sell some bikes? It’ll be great to see it compete the WSB title, but seriously, 20bhp down on a three year old bike?

fair point. I’ve not got any experience of riding litre bikes on the road (or on the track) so don’t know how usable the power is. Seems enormous and a little daunting to me so 20 less might be a good thing?..or not.

I’m sure the monobloc calipers, an increddible chasis and the fact it looks…well…schwaaeeeeeeettt will sell some bikes. And a midget italian ripping up the 2009 WSB championship.

i’m simply looking forward to the racing next year, how good is it gonna be with all these new manufacturers, loads of british talent and a ram packed grid of trophy hungry nutters

Don’t get me wrong, I’d still love one, but it’s a point against in terms of spending my money. But then, I don’t think I’ll be buying a new bike what with all the doom & gloom we’re being subjected too at the mo.

As for power, well, you can never have enough. I wouldn’t mind getting my K5’s engine tuned further. Not that I can use it all, but it’s bloody good fun when you do open it up.

oh please get one…and let me have a go

The beemer will be good too me thinks. Apparently they’ve gone for absolute outright power and will tone it down to make it ridable…now that sounds nuts

i like alot!!!

I didn’t realise the power output would be (comparitively) low, but I agree with Seb that there must be a world of tuning potential in that block to unleash a great deal more. Probably minor tuning will give good gains.

Not that similar, but reminds me a little of how road version of the old YZF-R7 produced a pretty modest amount of power in standard trim.

When a (very expensive) Yamaha Racing kit was installed though, the bike was quite a lot more powerful than a current day R1.
