anyone using road pilot 4? should i get rp3 or rp4?

Hi guys,

Just need some opinion on all year/weather tyre.

I will be getting a new set of tyres for my zxr400 next month when I am paid, because I am using the bike as a commute bike so I want a set all year/weather tyre rather than sport road thee like pilot power on my R1.

I was planning to get the pilot road 3 but now I know the pilot road 4 is out, so I can’t make up my mind. I want the best for the wet cold winter weather but if the PR3 is a lot cheaper and PR4 isn’t much better I would rather save some money (still nursing form Xmas spending)

Anyone using the PR4 and it is worth the extra cash? Or PR3 will be perfectly fine for the current shity weather?

Cheers guys and it might be a bit late but happy new year to you all

no idea if it’s worth the extra cash…

I’ve used PR3s now for as long as they’ve been out so would probably go for a pair of those again… They’ve seen me through loads of winters, country riding, motorway riding and have got very good mileage out of them

They’re a very good tyre as they are. Yes you could argue that PR4s are better (I’m sure Michelin would argue that), but I doubt you’ll notice much of a difference. So many people on here use them that push them a lot more than I ever could and all seem happy.

A review of the two from Revzilla… of course all from the paper rather than in practice… and that is if you can stand the guy’s accent and speed of talk!

I’ve been on PR3s since august and they’re brill. The PR4s only came out this month so I don’t know there have been any long term tests on them yet. I’d probably go for the PR3s until there are some clearer opinions on the 4s

In the 400 you might as well save even more and use the pr2’s they are still excellent tyres. I had those on my 600.
The pr3’s on my 1300. No probs. why spend more on a marginally better tyre

+1 that’s what i use on the SV650.

jaime is right, PR2’s are good tyres, many people still use them and love them.

i wouldnt buy a set of ‘newly released’ tyres, purely because i dont want to be a test dummy…

Thank you for all the replies.

I think I will stick with my original plan to get the PR3 then. I looked at the PR2 but i think I might spend a little more and get a better wet grip and longevity with PR3. Do you guys think I can get 4000 miles out of a set of PR3?

I guess I will let other to test out the PR4 and may get in for next year when I need a new set.

i just got a new set of tyres for my bike i had a brand new pr2 on a wheel ready to go and decided to get a pr3 for the rear and must say im liking them alot. compared to my road riders i had in the wet they grip so well, allmost to well i used to like going around corners sideways haha

I got 8-9K out of my PR3 rear and much more on the front

Of course it all depends how you ride it…

I noticed NO discernible difference between the 2’s and 3’s. Longevity is the same. PR2 was 8k miles including track days  and I ride like a knob on the old bike

I think the PR3s inspire a little more confidence in the wet.
I’ve been using PR2s on various bikes since 2008 and put
PR3s on my SV in 2012.

And that was only because the shop had no PR2s left and the
SV was on Dunlops with a puncture.

I’ll move to PR4s when there are no PR3 left

Hi guys,

Any of you know where in north london I can get a pair PR3 in a good price? my usual garage quote me £250 with fitting, I am sure it is a ok price, they are very honest with their price and service and I have been using them for long time but after all it is a business and they are there to make money, so i am just wonder if any of you know where i can get them cheaper.

Thanks

Sounds about the right price in most shops

I’m gonna get a new rear PR3 at end of month, managed 14,000 miles on it & it’s close to the wear markers, mostly motorway miles, very confidence inspiring for a inexperienced rider.

Yeah, I thought it is the going price anyway but I was hoping because the PR4 is out the 3 will be cheaper.it seems that I am looking for to pay £250 for the set then

cheers guys

Try Enfield Protyre on the A10, 02083678555.

Apparently, PR4s are meant to give 20 percent greater milage which if its true could offset the price hike.

I had PR3’s on my F800R and now on my ZX6 and commute daily in all weather; they are absolutely fantastic tyres. Very confidence inspiring, even with little heat in them. I get them from Essential Rubber, which again comes highly recommended on here. Have yet to try the PR4’s.
