Anyone see the Olympic closing ceremony?

Didn’t watch it myself, but a couple of people I’ve spoken to, and indeed no less a source than Telegraph on line have suggested that the British part of it might have been a little bit pants and doesn’t bode well for 2012… any comments?

Was it fake like the opening ceremony.

Yep I watched it and apart from the fact that it seemed to go on for hours the British bit was definitely a bit pants, especially the Leonna Lewis/Jimmy Page duet of ‘Whole Lotta Love’, I physically cringed at that point!!

Thankfully that clot Boris didn’t make a tit of himself, well, no more than usual anyway!

Just seen the highlights of it on the news. What amazes me is that someone is paid a shtload of cash to come up with that idea and remarkably thinks that they have a winner of an idea by teaming up one of rock’s greatest with Leona f*****g Lewis, a talent show winner no less (ok, ok, I know she can sing but putting her on a stage with JP, please!) and Beckham, WTF has he got to do with the olymics in the first place? Worryingly though, the dude who came up with this sht sold the idea to those who decide to ‘okay’ it. Astounding…

PS. Having said all of the above, the chick playing the fiddle in the hotpants was a nice touch, probably the best bit IMO.

I watched it and to be honest, thought the British made a very feeble effort indeed. After the dazzling display of the Chinese surely we could come up with a bit more than a red bus that came to pieces, an ageing rocker and David Beckham. When you think of all Britain has to offer and the time and money that’s gone into it, it was a bit disappointing - and what was Boris up to with his hands in his pocket and his shirt hanging out?

Steady on Hels, he may be getting on a bit but Jimmy’s chops are some of the best in the business.

John Bonham must be spinning in his grave. . .

Any ideas for the opening ceremony? I was reading this article in the Guardian about an overheard conversation in a pub in which some drunk blokes were discussing the subject of what we should do for the opening ceremony - one idea was to have 400 teenagers dressed as knives running across a huge rizla paper :hehe::hehe::hehe:

He’s past it mate (she says throwing red rag to bull LOL:P) Wrong decade for Led Zeppelin (although I suppose it’s better than getting Shane MacGowan in;)) :D:D

It was a bit pants.

To be fair though, the bit they did get right was Becks, believe me, in the Far East he’s certainly one of the best known international sportsmen.

Hmmmm, the Chinese can definately put on a show, but the English presentation made me want to hide behind the sofa :w00t: Just hope we don’t show ourselves up on the biggest stage in the world!

The wife was there, she enjoyed it, in the mall, free concert/music and all. I should have been there! Gave my ticket to the wifes friend to accompany her as I was standing on Harrow Road/Ladbroke Grove overseeing the Notting Hill Revellers.

Anyone there tomorrow, ill be in the same spot outside the cemetry on Harrow Road… Wlkiing between the Total Petrol Station, Kensal green and Kilburn Lane, come say hi.

…just briefly hijacking this thread - for official police purposes

I thought you guys didn’t get to do aid?

…carry on now, nothing to see here

Looks like I’m the only one that thought the morphing double decker was pretty cool, and that the dancers were good. As for Beckham, I can’t stand football and consider all professional footballers to be over paid, whining, wastes of space… but like it not he’s the closest thing the UK has to a superstar in China.

Not sure about the song, but at least Leona was singing, unlike the Chinese girl at the opening who was miming as the actual singer didn’t look pretty enough.

Over all I thought it was OK, just as good in its own way as the state sponsored, red booklet waving, Mao quoting, [only] Party line towing Chinese celebrations!!

Rant over!! :hehe:

I’ve just seen it again - the only crowd noise during the London part of the show WAS when Becks popped up.

I bet that football appears on E-bay china tomorrow AM!

Who won in the TaeKwonDo ?

Cant wait to see what we come up with for our opening ceremony!
I mean what have we got to show thats truly British? Probably a row of fish and chip vans followed by half a dozen Morris Dancers.
Still at least Leona and Beckham will be there to divert the attention off the half finished stadium.now that most of the Polish Guys building it are p***ing off home cos they realise we are in a credit crunch.

Soap box is being put away!

Just finished watching it…wow… :frowning:

That was embarrassingly bad.

I thought for the 8 minute slot we didn’t do too bad, and when Whole lotta love came on there is only one way to listen to that and that is loud!

The Chinese routine went on for way too long and in the end me and my friends got extremely bored and switched it off.

Whats beckham doing there ? promoting the british football team mmmmmm whoops i forgot we dont have an olympic football team,or should i say soccer team . And as for the red bus was it late getting there and did 2 turn up at the same time .
