I don’t always ride with music on, but I’ve got a trip coming up and all day riding with just ear plugs… and thought its ipod perfect.
I’ve got these ‘in-ear’ jobs from Sony, but after an hour in my Arai it hurts soooo much.
I used to have an autocom in my roof, which was great, but its old and crappy and needs to be re-installed (mush rather get the new stuff). But thats an expensive option.
Anyone use headphones regularly? Which kind work best?
if you’re riding on motorways, the ipod will have to be up so loud for you to hear it to drown out the wind noise. wont do your hearing any good i wouldn’t have thought.
the proper way to do it is autocom with earplugs, or moulded earplug phones (£££££)
I use sony in-ear ones for comfort. for noise deadening and quality I use KOXX ones but they need putting in carefully otherwise they’re VERY uncomfortable
I have tried the Bose in ear and they sound awesome and they don’t hurt my ears even in my Arai. £75 though and i’m sure the Sennheiser CX300 are just as good. Trouble is they don’t let you try before you buy for obvious reasons, so its a bit of a hit and miss really.
I’ve got the skullcandy’s as well had two pairs now as I seem to always damage the cables carrying them around all the time. Great headphones and good for blocking external noise without removing all noise. My iphone doesn’t have to be up to anywhere near full on the motorway either, while with other headphones it has.
If you’re going to be doing a lot of this sort of trip, it’s well worth investing in some custom moulded earphones. They double-up as earplugs and mean you don’t have to have your music turned up to eardrum-busting levels.
I’ve got a pair and I wouldn’t swap them for anything. Worth every penny.
The Sennheisers I got are very compfy and the sound is great. Can’t remember whether they are 300s or 400s. Sennheisers can be got very cheap on Ebay. Mine were a third of the price of the highstreet price sent from a UK address.
I got great quality in ear phones but they hurt after awhile, the Apple ones that admittedly come with the iPhone, are perfect for me.
Is a lot down to your ear shape though, some people find the stalks hurt from the standard apple ones, whereas people like me find the in ear ones tend to hurt after being pressed into your ear by your lid after awhile.
