Anyone into Classic Bikes??

Anyone on here into classic bikes??? i just bought a Yamaha RS100, 1978, really wanted a rd250/350, but they seem to be fetching really good money at the mo,

I will try and get some pic’s up, it needs a little work but will be a nice little project:)

Oh dear…i sense a revival of the ’ classic vs old ’ discussion

Shall i rephrase and say i bought a ‘old yamaha RS100’ LOL:D

Who cares if they are called old or classic, just get the pics up as i love em

Know what you mean about the RD350’s they are either a complete wreck to buy or all done up either way they arent cheap.

Great stuff, I hope you enjoy your new old bike.

My dream is to get a bike from the '20s with a big engine, and chug around on that, including commuting to work on it.

I’ve been recently enjoying my R80 which is a 1980, old/classic, as in its older than my wife. Not sure she’d like to be called classic or old. Soon to be cafe racer, rides like a dinosaur tho’.

Remember these fondly:) as I used to work for Brockliss M/C’s early 80’s these were quite quick if I remember did not stop very well:w00t:. Had teribble trouble with the silencers coking up, mainly due to the 2 stroke oil of the time and badly adjusted oil pumps. Not surprised by the lack of RD’s though, saw so many bent ones. That was the time when you could ride a 250 on L plates for ever! And a lot did. Good luck.

Has anyone brought Classic Bike mag lately? I brought it recently after a few years gap and it’s great, not only do you get the usual Triumphs, Nortons, Vincents etc, they’ve started doing articles on Jap bikes, like Yamaha SR500’s, Kwak Z’s, Honda 4’s etc stuff I used to drool over as a school kid! It’s always good to see a “classic” on the road whatever make, and the insurance is so much cheaper!

If you like classic bikes check out this place I stumbled across:http://www.classicbikes.co.uk/Our "Showroom" August 2009

We spotted this place on our way through Bakewell, sadly it was close to closing time, but will pop along there next time we are up that way

Kinn’el. I’ve got one older than that and I think it’s almost run in now.

Turn that into a cafe racer and your off my Christmas card list. (Along with almost every one else I know, including my sister.)

“Rides like a dinosaur…” That will be torque. Something you young upstarts have little expereience of.

Bugger. Another split infinitive. Should read …of which you…

Cheeky fugger, little experience of torque, I’ve got to admit its the less torque’ie of most of my bikes. But the shite brakes make it the most fun. Will I stop in time? Wont I?

That’ll be the ATE swing caliper brakes and the shite BMW original discs. (Though someone at least fitted some braided hoses.)

The ATE’s are a real pain to set up just right and I’ve known BMW dealers that can’t get them right. I recon it’s a 1 hour job the first time. and the second, and the… There used to be a lot of aftermarket discs out there better than the BM’s. (Try Motorworks and Motobins.)

It never was a rocket, but I’ve got a couple of ground through rocker boxes earned while keeping up with a Triumph and a Laverda through the Cotswolds. Just a bit ponderous and requires a diffrerent style of riding.

Yeah, your right, it’s a (loveable) dynosaur.

i have an mb50, rare now

I used to have an RD350LC … soooo much fun!

My mate had a RS100. I had a go on it when he first got it, and gave it berries like I did with my CG … it took off with front wheel aloft, straight across the road, scaring the hell out of me. Good times!

:D:D:D

oooh I had one of those Honda 750’s…my first proper big bike, many a time riding home from holland and germany on it on leave, seen how much they go for now !!!
