Well for starteters for those that read my pervious posts I managed to get the house and started working on it…
Trying to save money and been trying to cut corners and go as cheap as I could redecorating but I am stuck at one point now. The bathroom tiles. Could probably experiment and do it myself but I rather not. So anyone here into the trade or might know someone? It is about 20 meter squared, estimate including walls and floor tiles. Tiles are 20x25 for walls and 33x33 for floor.
Please PM me an estimate and if it includes your Adhesive and Grout or just the labour so I can work out the expenses. Property is based in Romford.
Hi guys, dlchatel’s brother said he’d have a look but it is not 100% so if any of you around Essex area or know anyone do let me know… at least an idea what the charge per square meter is.
If your walls are in okay condition (ie pretty flat) and you arent tiling the whole thing from floor to ceiling, you could probably do it yourself.
A diamond wheel tile cutter costs about £30 from B+Q and is really easy to use. In fact, I could lend you one. Will probably need new wheel though as used it tile my cousins kitchen floor recently.
I paid for someone to do the bathroom but then did my kitchen myself and didnt think it was that hard. (I did f#ck up one tile but only cos it slipped and I didnt notice until it was set. Decided to leave it like that as it makes the rest of my tiling look rather impressive for my first go at it! :D)
Suppose it would be harder if you are tiling the whole thing as you then need to get your lines sorted.
If you have time, you could probably save yourself quite a bit (I say probably because it might look terrible and then you will have to pay for new tiles! :w00t:)
Cant recommend the person who did my bathroom, sorry!
ok mate cheers… will have to be most of the bathroom, the walls by the bath/shower will need done all the way up, the rest about half way should be enough. The other concern is the floor, its wooden boards… so not sure how I should do it since it needs flexibility.
Will upload some photos as dlchatel’s bro will need to have a look also. But didn’t get the chance.
from what I’ve heard, the most important part of the planning, is to measure out the tiles first to see how much you’ll need to cut off the end ones when you get there
I would go into Topps Tiles or somewhere with your pics.
They will tell you which adhesive etc to use for flexibility. A bit of ply screwed down well would be an an okay base.
I tiled my cousins kitchen floorboards and all is still looking good.
I assume your bath is horizontal so you can use that to mark your main straight line and then make cuts towards the edges.
You just need to start in the middle of a row and measure across with tiles just to check that your cut tile on the edge is manageable (although saying that, a diamond wheel cutter will happily cut a 1cm slither of tile if you need it!)
I remember watching my dad tile when I was younger, back in the day before plastic tile spacers! It was all about well spaced matches!
Its really not as hard as you’d expect!
