Anyone ever had a tank made?

Due to warping and fuel seepage on my Multistrada 1000, I need a new tank. Yes, I can get one second hand from ebay, and get it coated with something to stop it warping, like Caswell.

But a phone call with my dad got me thinking. What about getting a tank made - and in metal rather than plastic so it doesn’t rot. That way I can also use a magnetic tank bag, and would be an investment in a bike I’d prefer to keep but may have to trade out.

Has anyone ever had a tank made? Who by, and for how much? Over to you forum!

Potentially dangerous failure from a manufacturer isn’t it?
Is there not a recall or something?
If a manufacturer defect all the e-bay ones will have the same symptoms or will eventually get them.

WRT the tank making - Custom/streetfighter places (back of mags - not the chat pages, the other ones with ads on :)) Would think about 4 to 5 hundred though.
If a common fault on a certain make/model some places, fabrication shops, might already have a template and have made one before and could work out cheaper and more convenient as all you do is order it and they don’t need to remove and measure.

if the original is plastic, why not have straps moulded into it for a tank bag?

Thanks guys - have now sourced a second hand tank from Germany for about £200. The plastic in the tank deforms due to ethanol in petrol, so I’m going to line my tank with Caswell to prevent this from happening again.
