Can you possibly see if the two smaller top vents, when closed, still allow air into the helmet ? Mine do but shut off the flow when they are manually held closed, despite clicking shut.
Just checked mine and they both shut completely, although an RX7 is a little breezy compared to my other Arai.

The RX7 is a racing helmet and as such is probably the most noisy, draughty thing you could wear on your head:w00t:

Thanks, mine still allow air in when they are closed, I have taped them up over winter as it was far too cold on the motorway but I’ve just washed the lining and I think I’ll take it back and get it fixed, it’s less than a year old. The other top vent shuts off properly, I don’t think it’s too much to ask for the others to do this too ?

I had a slight visor prob & Infinity in Hangar Lane, were really good & sorted it for me.
I’m not a great fan of the RX7. I’d rather have had the Viper GT but I thought the graphix were poo.

Just found out that the two smaller top vents are not supposed to close fully, they just regulate the air flow to a degree. Even a new 2008 RX7 on the shelf did exactly the same thing.
This is to my mind really poor design and makes the Arai RX7 a summer only helmet and not suitable for winter use - how can you use a helmet in sub zero conditions when the vents don’t close. Bluddy shower of sh*te.
So, if you’re thinking of buying an RX7 make sure you also buy something else to wear in the winter or like me use insulating tape on all the vents to block them off so it looks like a piece of sh&t.
For a £500 helmet that’s supposed to be the pinacle of Arai’s development this is just simply crap. I don’t know about other helmets in the Arai range but the Shoei XR-1000 doesn’t have that problem, when you close the vents they close shut properly.
I’ll be contacting the importer to discuss this because their advertising doesn’t make this clear, it’s marketed as an all year round helmet and withut modifying it, it’s clearly not an all year round helmet.
Its not like you to not have done extensive homework on the subject of lids before you bought one.
Come the summer, you will realise the benefits of the ventilation and the lightness of your RX7:)

If it was sold as a summer helmet then I’d not have a problem, that’s obviously what it is but it was sold by the shop and in the Arai brochure as their top of the range, safest, helmet. I wanted the best helmet I could get when I started so relied on the brochures and the shop to recommend the most appropriate lid. Arai call it an all year round helmet so why should the shop say anything different ?I agree that for track days in summer when it’s hot or for summer road riding it’s a good helmet, but just make sure you have soemthing else to wear in winter because it’s fu*king freezing in an RX7. Riding to track days in Feb at -2C isn’t funny when you don’t realise the vents in the helmet don’t shut properly by design. Poor design, poor marketing and spoils an otherwise great product.
Yes it is a bit breezy… but wear a balaclava and no worries… i use the Rukka Wind Stop one from Infinity on Portland. Keeps the noggin warm and dont notice any wind on top of the head at all. Only problem I have with the lid is that at 200+KPH I get a bit of a draft from the bottom lip into my face :crazy:… not good when you are wearing contacts and a pair of shades… contacts dry out and the shades tend to fog over :crazy:
Seconded, try a thin balaclava under it as this should stop the breeze in winter.
Alternatively keep the bike and yourself snug during the winter and head out for fun rides when the snow isn’t going sideways.
I have been using a m*acp balaclava but I wish Arai had made it clear that the two top vents don’t do anything, they still allow the air to circulate. Even if you block the inner holes with ear plugs the whole helmet still gets cold because the air is designed to circulate between the shell and the inner polystyrene from top to bottom, so the only way to stop ice cold air entering the helmet is to put tape over them, which is a bit of a shitty solution on a £500 helmet that’s supoosed to be top of the pile.
You can see this for yourself, take out the skull piece and blow into the vents, you’ll see that the air still goes between the inner and outer shell, it’s mac^p cold on the A1 at 100ish when it’s near freezing, every journey I do to London starts and ends with a 30 min stint on the A1.
