Went down the garage yesterday to get a Scottoiler fitted to my Gixer. Test drove the 2008 R6 absolutely unreal made me feel like my GSXR was standing still when I got back on it. Thinking of picking one up but the question I have is, is it the best in its class??
YEP!!
Test ride the CBR600RR before you make your choice. In my opinion that is the best 600 sports bike out there. (And the opinion of MCN!).
Well funnily enough I also test rode one on Saturday. I loved it. I honestly donât know what the reviewers were saying about it being painful around towns etc. I can only put it down to them being used to litre class bikes and not wanting to work it more. For me however, I get a lot of fun out of making it work and enjoyed every minute of it. Iâve also test ridden the CBR 600 and, for my tastes, found it boring. Or rather, I didnât find it as exciting as my current '03 R6 (before the crash of course). There was nothing wrong with the CBR, as such and it cornered very nicely indeed but the mid range was so smooth and so easy that there was just no excitement from the power delivery. It really does come down to what you enjoy from a bike because I know that both of them are capable of far more than I can put them through.
I would suggest then that youâre 5â6" or less in height
Reading Roadkills comments made me remember that the CBR600RR does feel a little boring when you first ride it, so a short test ride may not be enough. It took me probably 20 miles to even begin to gel with the bike, but once I did, I loved it.
I ride a Fireblade but, for a little additional excitement, I take the wifeâs CBR600RR out for a blast. There are no flat spots. It revâs incredibly well throughout the entire range and it turns into bends with such awe-inspiring confidence that for the time Iâm riding I think I have Rossiâs skills!
Ha Ha! Iâm 6 foot 1! (But I know what you mean, I wouldnât want to do any looooong distances on it!)

That I can well believe I imagine that, next to my old fireblade ('92) I would have loved everything about this bike! I was impressed with the way it entered into corners (even though circumstances didnât permit me to do it FAST) and also because of the delivery the exit was very smooth and effortless too.
Similary to Yslarts comment though, I did find it very small and cramped though and Iâm only 5â 9". That is probably the only thing I would say was really âwrongâ with it, for me. Everything else just came down to preference.I wish I could talk my wife into getting one. Heck, I wish I could talk her into getting any bike
They say that new 08â CBR 600RR is best in middle class. Havenât tested it yet thought.
Charms was that the Yamaha Service Centre you were down at incidentally? If so was there and saw you take it out! If it was you, you looked pleased when you came backâŚ

the '08 cbr600 is the same as the '07. nothing new on it for this year.
youâve only gotta look at junior superstock/stocksport/european superstock 600 to see which one handles the best and has the horses on the straights.
i used to have a '99 r6 on the road and it flew but had nothing in the midrange. iâve not ridden my '08 on the road but it pulls very hard from the midrange and the top end is stonking. Iâm 6 ft 1" and wouldnât be able to spend too long doing road miles on it, but iâve found that with all sportsbikes.

The smile across my face was ear to ear :). Have been on a RR test run before and it didnt do it for me however it wasnt the current model. I think now a days technology is moving so fast all the bikes are very similar. The problems with the back wheel being pretty twitchy under heavy breaking has been solved with the power delivery also being there through the entire range rather than just at the top end.
Nobody seems to be keen on the ZX-6R??? Oh and a thank you to everyone your imput is appreciated

I am Absolute stormer of a bike, itâs slightly bigger than the Honda so a bit more room for me at 6â2" and a few extra pounds. The power delivery is a bit more exciting, handling is as good as any at this level, thereâs not going to be much in it unless like Scratcher youâre racing them on track. Iâd recommend it, especially at the prices Kwak seem to sell them at, big saving over the R6 and RR. Mine has done 11,000 miles since the end of August last year and apart from some dodgy discs has been brilliant.

Hehe - I use Paul a lot and heâs a damn good salesman - you go down there for a light bulb and come back with a new bike! Good luck with it whatever your choice - think you may end up with an R6 though
Phil was it you that said to me he is the most cunning sales man;), âhe wears overalls so you let your guard downâ and well you end up with R6???
No think that was prob that older fella Francis who was there with a scooter. Paulâs been flogging him bikes for 20 yrs so heâs got wiseâŚ
Haha he hasnt got that wise if he keeps ging back for more.
It pretty much seems guys that its a case of horses for courses. I wouldnât have even considered changing my bike but once on the R6 i felt as confident if not more so than i do with my current gixer. That could make for many many miles of happy riding, or if the confidence is misplaced could result in an off :crying: but i suppose thatâs the case with any machine.
Iâve got plenty to be thinking about, thanks again everyone.
