Getting first bike withi next few weeks and love the look of mt but hear it struggles on the motorway. I’m in no rush to go crazy fast so question would it be enough? Anyone in London that could show me their bike and have a chat please?

I remember one of the guys here has an MT but recently switched to a Street/Speed Triple. Can’t remember the exact reasons but it sounded like he didn’t like the MT much. Or the STriple was just better!
I think with any naked bike you’ll need considerable upper body to hold onto the bike on the motorway…
Edit: It was Igor! http://londonbikers.com/forums/FindPost1017071.aspx
Its rated top speed is only 100 and its pretty short on power at only 47bhp. on paper at least it should manage 70 or 80 but it’s likely to be trying quite hard. if you have motorway on your list of things you need the bike to do, then steer well clear. if its an occasional thing you might be able to put up with it.
there is a woman sometimes turns up to BM on an mt03, I forget her name but she seemed happy with it in town at least.
if you want something better suited to the motorway, the Kawasaki ER6n looks quite like it
I think that in town they are a proper weapon, just outa town that they struggle, if I could afford a second bike just to do commuting and town stuff, it would be high on the list.
and ER6f num nuts.
IIRC, the er6f is faired and the ER6n is naked?
ya know, like the MT03?
If you’re gonna do motorways might as well get a bike with a screen/fairing. Then again I was chatting to someone who was adamant that commuting 40+ miles daily on a 125 (sportsbike) was ‘fine’. To each their own I guess.
Mine is fine on the motorway and fast enough up to 100mph (or so I’ve heard ;)). Cruises at 80-90 no problem. Fun on the twisties and also good off the lights (due to the decent torque, chassis and suspension).
A bit late on the reply here but if you want to find out how good the MT03 is, try keeping up with LiM, particularly on the twisty stuff.
Motorways? No problem holding a steady 70, o.k. 80 on the speedo, even on my Aprilia Trail. (Same engine, kind of different chassis.)
I think it’s a fine and under rated bike.
Donatella?
might be year. she looks like a donatella
I’m on an XT660X at the moment which is the same engine. It’s great in town - very torquey and quick off the mark but it’s not designed for motorways. That said, I have no problems taking it onto the motorway but I wouldn’t want to do much of a distance. 10-20 miles of motorway are no problem and I usually sit at 70 to go easy on the engine although it will cruise at 80-85 no problems. Don’t know about the MT, but the build quality on my XT is pretty good and it still scrubs up well - certainly much better than my friend’s V-Strom
