Any Good Motorbike Dealers In London and Surrounding Areas?

Hi,

I want to buy a motorbike and I was wondering if anyone knows any good motorbike dealers in London and surrounding areas? I need/want to buy a bike by the end of this month. If you have any suggestions on a good learner bike, that would be great too.

Thanks for taking time out of your day to read this and if you have replied it’s very much appreciated.

Have a great day and ride safe.

Without being too personal, whats your budget? And are you after new or used?

£1800 and looking for used. Your not being to personal, thanks for helping.

What area are you based? Does it have to be a dealer? You could look on ebay to save a few quid and im sure someone here would be more than happy to go look at it with you if it was local if you have no one else that can look for you.

Have you allowed extra money for helmet ,gloves , jacket etc
You will also need to concider a fruking big chain And they don’t come cheap

Then first but not last the insurance on a motorbike

Gumtree is full of used 125cc bikes but worth taking along someone with a bit of experience. Make sure you do a HPI check before buying privately (a basic check costs about £5 online) to find out if the bike has been written off/stolen or has money owing on it. And keep a couple of hundred quid back for any repairs or replacement parts - every bike I have ever bought needed a new battery within days.

I’m from South London, SW; to be exact. Doesn’t have to be a dealer, I haven’t considered Ebay…well seriously. I have considered Gumtree though, what do you think? You really think someone would come with me? If I were to go back on Gumtree, I’m definately taking a mechanic and doing the proper checks (make sure it’s not writen off, stolen, got MOT etc.) I was thinking a dealer as, I am covered by the Sale of Goods Act 1979; where I am not if I buy from a private seller. If anything goes down on my head be it! However, it may save me a few quid. The pro’s and cons of both. It would be my first bike, I’m trying to be smart; I think some people think I come across as nieve by the questions I ask. I’m just trying to get a better understanding that’s all.

Thanks for helping me out.

I am trying to be smart with my budget, however; maths in not my strong point and I do intend to haggle. Never pay full price for anything unless you have too. I’m not going to use my credit card at a bike shop as it costs them 3% each time they use a card machine, thus cutting into their profit margin. They don’t want to do this and hopefully I will be able to get a deal. Plus some places if you buy all your gear from them you get a discount. I intend to haggle but not be rude or pushy, more sweet and I want a bargin. I will wait till next pay day (or two), for kit. I have looked at some quotes for a bike and they are really x3 EXPENSIVE! Insurance is ageist! :expressionless:

Thanks for informing me and taking time out to reply.

Thanks for the advice. I intend to to do all of this if I am consider buying from gum tree.

Thanks for your time.

But have you factured in the costs of all the stuff you will in the £1800 budget crash helmets arnt cheap well decent ones
arnt the cost could reach 1/3 of that budget and that’s just the basics

Too be honest; yes and no. I am getting paid next week and have a rough idea of finances at the moment. I have some savings so I should be OK, but if I need help; do you mind if I ask you? If you could help me (If I need it) that would be great. Thanks

P&h motorcycles, Crawley . Just bought my KTM there and they have a big showroom with new and 2nd hand bikes. On top of that its worth going there to check out their huge display of lids, gloves, leathers, boots and much more…and they do 6 months 0% interest payments on their gear.

Thanks for the suggestion!
Ride safe and have a nice day.

The best place to get answers is here so feel free to ask anybody I’m sure they can give advise freely to the new to bikes people

Fuk I get my crash helmets from
http://www.racevisors.co.uk
They can do some good deals

I think I might go to a actual shop to see if it fits comfortable before buying. I will wear it in the shop for like 5-15 minutes do the helmet test, I may look like a twat but at the end of the day it’s my safety. Thanks for the link though.

Finns in Redhill have a good reputation as a second hand bikje dealers.

Lids Direct have some good deals on hats. Check out their clearance section. Their customer service and post sales service have been excellent to me.

Woodford Motorcycles were great to me when I bought my R1 from them.

If you are buying a second hand bike bike privately, that is local to me in Enfield, I’d be happy to check it out for you.

Get an Almax security chain. Nothing else compares to them. Don’t compromise on security or your personal safety, or legalities such as insurance.

As I said on the which bike thread, you can only buy second hand what is available. Picking a dealer in advance will just restrict your options, so see what is out there and then when you find something check to see if the place is any good.

That is what I did, as I also felt more comfortable with a dealer though did not restrict myself when looking. But after seeing an ad on the Autotrader site I did some searches on the dealer, Sondel Yamaha in Blackfen, before contacting them. I am also in south west London and had never heard of Blackfen before (it is far south east), and it seemed so far away needing two trains then a bus to get there (by road it is just the south circular to the end of the 40mph section then turn right). But the various posts I read after putting their name in Google were all positive.

Not had to deal with them since (and I am not capable of haggling, but was happy with the price anyway) but I went away happy enough I would have no problem using them again.

Thanks for the offer and suggestions, much appreciated. I will keep you posted  Ride Safe

Thank you Mr. Michael for taking time out of your day and writing a reply. I appreciate you sharing your experience at that showroom with me. So far, I have been given a lot to think about and will consider pretty much all options. Thanks again and ride safe
