anti spyware

what is the best way to get rid of spyware please

Spybot search and destroy is what I use. doea the trick for me.

Thanks all, my nephew is having problems with keylogging
Whats the score with keylogging? anyone know info would be good so i can tell him…

Neil! Also, the best way to defend yourself from spyware, is to not get it in the first place! If you use Mozilla Firefox as your browser, you won’t get any, it’s immune to it! It also happens to be an infinantly better browser in almost every other way.

He opened a file sent to him from a friend ??? very sus i have to say. I have
already told him to stop everything, he runs firefox, but does’nt run any software regularly, even though i tell him to,and he uses limewire!!!, and his mum n dad are pretty much computer illiterate.
Thanks for the advice guys, gonna go down now and sort it out for him. Once again londonbikers to the rescue, what would i do without you guys.
THANKS AGAIN…

No my comp is very secure, it’s just my nephews comp tony, thank god!! i have sorted it tonight for him, silly boy keeps downloading exe files sent to him from people without checking them first!!! I have told them not to use the comp untill we are sure the keylogger program has been deleted properly. He said when he downloaded the file that a blue screen came up with the word OWNED across it!!

MS Beta here too, also DL ‘Google Toolbar’ will stop any pop up’s too…

I used to get lots of spyware but since downloading MS Beta ive had none at all…

The best defense against all this sh!t is to use a router rather than a modem. If you use a modem whilst running Windows, your PC is hanging it’s arse out to the world and saying, “Please take me big boy!” … this is because Windows is full of security flaws, leaving ports open for hackers to get in. Using a router solves this, as routers set up to run NAT (Network Address Translation) which is usually the default set-up, won’t allow traffic in unless the request was initiated from behind the router.

I just use a router and AVG … job done!

If you are having problems with your P.C. i.e virus or spyware use this forum. They cleaned up mine wich was well and truly feked.
The best thing to do is go ont the virus forum put a quick note of what is up and you will get loads of free spyware and antivirus stuff.

I’ve tried loads, so far everything everyone else has said here I have. I run MS Beta, runs everynight at 2am and I’ve never had a problem since.
Plenty of freebies around, avast antivirus is reportedly good, although I hate it as it doesnt like binary downloads. Zonealarm is a useful tool as well, a free Firewall that can be set to ask you if you want to allow or deny downloads so stops spyware installing in the background most of the time. My router blocks most things aswell.

Both MS and avast have found all the nasties and got rid of them. Didn’t realise MS wasnt free any more though, I DL’d a new copy the other day for my laptop without ay problems.

Avoid limewire or kazaa, horrible things. I use it very occassionally, setting everything to maximum and doing a full sweep afterwards. I’ve been ok so far, but heard some real horror stories from people using these.

Thankfully GMail stops most viruses getting through to my inbox - if anyone wants an account let me know, I have 100’s of invites to use up.
