Another Tyre thread

After reading tpups tyre thread i got thinking to myself the tyre question is one of the most common threads on loads of forums and with 100’s of different replies and opinions. It just got me thinking you dont really see any worst tyre threads.

i know its not common to really get a ‘bad’ tyre these days due to improvments in technology but out of interest whats the worst set of tyres you’ve ever had the misfortune of having to ride on?

Mine were the factory fitted dunlop 218 fk’s that came on my cbr 6 rr. They were okay with the bike upright but even with a moderate ammount of lean they were pretty dodgy to say the least… had the back end all over the place on more than one occasion with little of no warning. Never crashed it or anything like that but probably could have done if i didnt change them for something decent!

I’ve only ever had Pilot road 2’s and pilot pures so I can’t say. They felt good when I first started riding so why change?

i wouldn’t like to experience a $hitty tyre

Early 80’s Yokohama tyres on a trail bike, they used to say “Have a drama on a Yokohama!”. I did. many times, had to get rid of them they would step off white lines and manhole covers in the dry, in the wet they were terrifying!

Later on Yokohama became the tyre to have, now they don’t even make bike tyres!

There’s some ‘vintage’ (nearly 20 year old) Inoue tyres on Cindy’s 125…I can’t imagine they’ll be great!

A pair of Dunlops on my old CBF500. Horrible, horrible tyres, will never touch or trust them again.

I will not ride on Dunlops.

A few years ago I had a set of dunlops on a 750 and hated them, no feel and took most of the day to warm up. So fo that reason I have never had a bike fitted in dunlops, saying that they are getting some good reviews these days and plenty of road racers use them so maybe they have a place on one of my bikes. More than likely the track bike though lol

Avon speedmasters (ask ya Dad)…totally crap square profile and solid were on a GT380 stinkwheel when I bought it…jeez scary times those :D:D

Bridgestone BT020 on VFR750…put me right off Bridgestones.

Good thread…made me think about a mate who only uses Michelin…

I suppose most people find a good tyre and stick with it.

I am on my 4th different brand on the VFR because I like to try what’s available…

That whats what i did, my bad experience with dunlops on the cbr put me right off that brand and i stuck with pirellis ever since.

However since ive had the hornet as my commuter bike ive been trying out different brands everytime im due a fresh set of tyres

i can ride with pretty much anything, but a set of bridgestone BT015’s are the only tyres i have ever taken off my bike before they were worn out. which was a shame, as i usually loved bridgestones. but locking the front, on a dry day, on shell grip, after riding for 2 hours kinda put me off them…

On a 600 used for road riding I’d go for either Michelin Pilot Road 2 or perhaps Continental Road Attack 2 tyres.

For faster road and track, I’d try Michelin Pilot Power 2CT or Power Pure tyres.
