Another R6 in flames

MCN’s Yamaha R6 meets a fiery end 16 June 2008 12:24

This is the result of MCN’s Senior Writer Andy Downes’ track day mishap at Brands Hatch this morning (Monday).

Andy highsided the Yamaha R6 on the exit of Druids, and the impact of the crash resulted in fuel spilling from the tank over the hot motorbike, causing a massive fireball.

Witnesses say the smoke cloud was visible from several miles away. Andy was fortunately left with just a minor foot injury in the incident.

nasty looking highside that. at least it wasen’t his personal bike.

def seems to be a recurring theme though.

i’m sure there was a vid posted on here a few weeks back of someone elses R6 OR R1 sliding on a trackday abroad and the thing just bursts into flames watched by the bemused stewards…

You’re right…Adz posted a vid of a track day in the states where this guys brand new R6 burst into flames after a little high side. Was burning for a good long whileFound it…Herehttp://londonbikers.com/forums/Topic323585-43-1.aspx

Ouch… Do you reckon they will break it for spares. :stuck_out_tongue:

There was one at Donnington BSB as well. Took forever for the marshals with extinguishers to get there.

Dodgy Yamaha design:crazy:

I think it is…I wonder whether they’ll issue a recall to cover their arse like Kawasaki have just done with the ZZR 1400 breaking frames.

Isn’t that an odd place to go down at Brands?

Wouldn’t he be over to the right there?

Not if he highsided, that would have pushed him out to the left, i.e. he came off before straightening up for the move over to the right.

True. I was thinking he would be still quite upright at that point. thanks for clearing that up E:cool:

think it said on mcn yesterday that it was a result of his highside out of druids. may be wrong though.:doze:

He must have slid a fair old way then eh?:crazy:Was he OK?

from the first pic it looks like he did! he would have to have slid enough to rupture the tank first, then there is quite a long line of flame…Also it is pretty downhill at that point, gravity would have helped

 It’s all written on the first post too

good how we all pay attention to detail isn’t it:P

i posted this before but here it is again
