ANOTHER Ebay fraud

I’m selling my car on Ebay and stated clearly that I would only accept cash so you can imagine i was a bit surprised when a guy emailed me to ask if I would accept cash (who wouldn’t). He also told me his email didn’t work so I should email him at a yahoo address… No problems so far…

I was browsing through ebay the next day and realised that this guy is sending the same question to a whole host of people.

What this guy is doing is hacking into people’s ebay accounts and sending these emails. You then send him an email in reply and a few days later you’ll get an email which looks just like an ebay email claiming that your details need to be updated. On closer inspection the link wasn’t kosher. He merely grabbing people’s account details and perhaps paypal details as well.

this goes on all the time.

I consult ( freelance ) on IT Systems etc etc ( I do NOT contract ) , and I spend a lot of time writing security policies and procedures for companies large and small and it’s still amazing that people fall for this stuff.

Education is the only way forward, but it is hard to get the message out. I need to and am willing to run free internet awareness classes but the government just wont pay for it. The £££’s lost vs. the cost for me for a day is in my favor to the tune of £200,000,000 a year but can you get a grant for £2k to run these courses can you fcUK !
