american electric motorcycle debuts on streets of london

discuss! :stuck_out_tongue:

dont think its one for true bikers though…

top speed of only about 65mph, 0-60 in only 5 secs, and theres no noise!

surely a big attraction to those kind of bikes is the noise they make when you slap some akros onto them?

plus not sure im happy with ā€œmicrochip technologyā€ in the battery.

can the tech heads leave nothing plain and simple?

whats wrong with energiser?:w00t:

therell still be people who buy them though…

lets vote, who do we reckon would be the first londonbiker to buy one? :w00t:

tbh I don’t think any of us are that stupid

how much u wana bet? :stuck_out_tongue:

I can see a place for them. However I’ve got a couple of concearns:

  1. How far can you go on a charge?

  2. It’s to quiet. I like a bike I can hear!!

If all the cars were electric then I can see it working, but not yet…

Four hours to charge … and I wonder what the range is?

I’m glad that things are progressing with alternative power sources, but electric doesn’t really seem to be the answer at present. I’ve seen the Vectrix superscoot, which has respectable performance but also has limited range and lengthy recharging time. It’s not exactly taking over the streets, is it?

Bring on hydrogen power - and make sure it’s noisy!!!

I’m even thinking about taking the baffles out of my bike to make it even more obvious to drivers on the commute. My neighbours may not be so keen!

I’d say it’s actually a bit dangerous! Nobody will hear you coming (cars/pedestrians or cyclists), and will you have the power to get out of a dangerous situation if need be?
Also, how long does it take to charge? How much does it cost to charge? Your electric bills would certainly hike up a fair bit if you were charging it every night.
Once they are finished with, whether through age or damaged, what will they be like to scrap? Batteries aren’t the easiest thing to re-cycle due to the metals and chemicals involved.
Personally, I don’t think they are any more green than a regular bike, in fact they are probably less green in the long run!
Also, with the weather over here and the fact that it is just a big battery on wheels, I think it’s going to be far from hassle free riding.
Of course, I could be wrong.
But I also think that if it doesn’t make a lot of noise and put a whacking great big grin on your face every time you see it, it’s not a real bike! :stuck_out_tongue:

how would you bump start it?? :hehe:

Read somewhere - cant remember where - that theyre looking at or have fitted engine noise revving sounds to electric vehicles because theyre too quiet and pose a danger to pedestrians.

Recon if electric technology in this field does take off it wont be in any of our lifetimes

Who’ll buy them… Those annoying fuggers who ride about in those little BMW scooter/moped contraptions with the roof or the even more annoying hybrid car drivers who think they’re doing some good for the environment. Smug bas***ds the lorra 'em.

theres ya next millions, dowloading new sound effects for ya car! bit like ring tones…

i think its exciting seeing what the future might hold, reckon we’re a good 20 years away from something becoming mainstream…

I kinda like it, although the lack of mention with regards to its range on a full charge is not very confidence inspiring. 4 hours for a full charge is also a nono. The fact of it being quiet is just the same as running on a stock road legal exhaust, unless I have a loud can almost no pedestrian/cars takes any notice of me on the road anyway.
