I’ve been out with the ‘No To The Bike Parking Tax’ guys many times, including the run to Brussels, to protest against the bike parking fees brought in the scumbag Westminster Council. But they never ever achieved anything like this protest by the French riders:
their version of the M25 run was better too, they stopped. plus tonnes of bikers, in full bike kit decending on the metro (this was when France was bringing in the filtering ban)
As we draw ever closer to the Olympics, this message becomes all the more important to those who DO have the influence over others that seek to “deter”, or “restrain” motorcycle use in London
That’s the problem they never listen, they are in the pocket of business so things with never change for the better. Until we get the torches and pitch forks and lynch a couple of the fuckers then nothing will change.
At the start of their campaign NTBPT harrased people on the forum, released the home addresses of MPs and had a go at Boris when he spoke to them on his bike at Trafalga Square. This alienated a lot of bikers who may have cared and the majority (it seems) don’t care about Parking in Westminster.
If the government wanted to stop us filtering or pay congestion charge that’d probably be more of a concern to the community but if it was handeled in the same manner as NTBPT a lot of bikers would simply choose not to protest as they do not want to be associated in any way, shape or form with that organisation.
I think I agree that the weekly protest is much much less effective than a monster turnout a la France.
If only a huge number of bikers could be motivated to ‘flash mob’ London, say, by riding together slowly through town criss-crossing the bridges over the Thames…
why then you think the french government is different?
no government wants to listen, or pretends not to, until drastic measures are taken.
no violence, i dont agree with that. but if you think about the riots, yes people got arrested yes people got hurt BUT the government started to address the problem havent they? they have to. there’s been loads of talk about the state of the youth since then.
so protest DO work, sitting on your ass and complaining DONT (not referred to you or anyone in particular obviously).
