Am I a bad person?

Some of you might remember I had a little off in October, resulting in a couple of major injuries - and subsequently my bike was written off…

Yesterday morning, the postie bought me 3 letters from Swintons - my old insurer - asking me to renew my insurance, on the bike they wrote off in January, which was due to run out in May, but as they paid out was actually cancelled when the bike was written off…

So I phoned them - and I’m afraid to say I deliberately made it sound as if I was really upset by the letters… the conversation went something like this;

Insurance; Hello Swintons Bike Insurance, Mike speaking, can I help you?

Me; “It’s about my renewal notice…”

Mike @ Swintons; <sensing a sale> “Would you like to renew sir?”

Me; “No, not really - you wrote the bike off after my accident in October.”

Mike @ Swintons; “Oh, I’m sorry about that. The claims department don’t have the same computer system as us… do you have another bike you’d like to insure with us this year, we have some great deals this summer…”

Me; “That would be a bit difficult… I had my arm amputated as a result of the accident - I nearly died” <sounding a little choked>

Mike @ Swintons; < the sound of colour draining from Mike’s face> " I’m really sorry, um, there’s nothing on your file about this, um, sorry, I really didn’t know, sorry"

Me: "I’m really upset about the letters, it caused me flashbacks to the accident, it was very traumatic " <I’m not actually upset, I still can’t remember the accident, and it wasn’t that traumatic - but I am a good actor>

Mike @ Swintons; “I’m very sorry, I didn’t know, I’m very sorry, I don’t know what to say. I’m very sorry.” <I actually thought he was going to cry!>

Long pause

Me; <in chirpy, upbeat voice> “That’s ok Mike. Bye”

The thing is I actually feel a bit guilty about laying it on a bit. I know Swintons shouldn’t have sent me the letters - it would have worse if I’d died and my wife had needed to phone them - but he was probably a nice chap just trying to sell some insurance - it’s not as if he sent the letter personally…

Am I a bad person? Was it a bad thing to do?

Haha you wicked wicked man;):D:D:D

Well done John

Big BOOO! to Swintons:D

Loved it mate, i would liked to seen the blokes face as you told hime.:w00t:

It wasn’t a bad thing to do - you prodded this guy into remembering that he is a human being with feelings, talking to another human being with feelings - and not just another insurance possibility. You lowered the tinted window of the BMW X5 of materialism - that has seperated people’s humanity from each other over the last 20 years of greed based ego capitalism, and showed a human face. ;):P:D

Quality…I bet his face was a picture :D:D:D

oh and yes your a little wicked…but put it down to being traumatised

Excellent :D:D:D:D

Good man

If they remembered that their customers are real people and kept all of their details together, rather than separating them into Sales Opportunities, Claimants, In The Keep Net etc… they would have know the situation, so no, don’t feel guilty - you’re entitled to a little fun

Hahaha you are an evil evil man! Well done.

Ha ha. Funniest thing I’ve heard in ages! Nice job . . . all those years of RADA training obviously paying off there!

All I can say is KARMA!!!

I would never say such things about my body parts…

your a wicked wicked man john…but next time record it so we all can hear…lol:laugh:.

smiled:D.

Absolutely Shane, I’d have loved to have seen the guys face!!! ha ha ha…

John, you are a very bad man…well done!

When I grow up I want to be just like JohnSE.

Harsh!

But fair. They should have their system integrated so that kind of thing doesn’t happen. Good on you!

Haha nice one John

To be honest he may have gained from the experience. If he has to have a similar conversation in future he’ll be better prepared. When your doing phone work whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.

Jeeze Joby, what kind of phone work have you done in the past?!? :w00t:

Hehehe…so bad!

They’ll probably use the recording as part of their training program…how to deal with a traumatised customer…

…and they’ll use it as an example of how their systems can be kept up to date!

Then they’ll make the same mistake again and send you more letters next year! :w00t:

You actually made me lol!!

I know the telesales people are just doing their job but they can be a f**king pain sometimes - If i can’t get rid of them within a couple of sentences without being rude, I end up saying i’m just getting the homeowner then place the phone next to the telly or stereo depending which is on and leave it.

It makes you wonder how they run their business if the two systems aren’t connected, which must be a lie otherwise they wouldn’t know if to had made a claim on a policy since the last renewal…

We have a great get out plan for cold calling sales people…we rent this house!
