Ive got two cats. One of those cats has (I have discovered) been being fed for about the last 6 months by a neighbour (I think the other one is being fed by someone else, but Ive not worked out who, yet). I previously discovered that this was the case and respectfully asked that they stop. At the time they seemed reasonable. So I trusted them to have stopped. The cat did come back to see me from time to time and so I thought they must have honoured their promise. Then again, recently, she has been on and off coming to see me.
Then tonight, I get a note from them asking to go round for a chat about the cat. So I go round - I presume they are concerned for it’s wellbeing. When I get there, the phrases “you arent looking after the cat” and “she has been our cat for a while now!” were uttered. Of course that’s going to annoy me. I tell them to stop and the woman says “no - I cant do that”. So I demand to have the cat back - they have bought her a bowl and are feeding her in front of me. I get really upset and leave - unfortunately without the cat.
Well what am I supposed to do!? Who the hell do you go to about someone else feeding your cat?!
I got the bike back out and went round the police station. They are going to be going round her house for theft of the cat.
Hopefully they will stop feeding her now that I have someone independent explain the situation. I mean ffs, what ARE they thinking!? How would they like it if I did the same with their child!? If you want a cat, go out and buy one!
It makes me wonder at the mentality of this country. I mean, I hada bike nicked FROM ON MY PROPERTY not so long ago. People see things and go “ooh I like that!” and just take it.
Then they complain that I wasnt there 24/7 to watch over the property…funny that - I was out working so that the cat has a house and can get its injections and can pay for a cattery when I go on holiday.
I mean how ridiculous is this!
Sorry, but I had to share. I’m absolutely livid and the house is very empty at the moment. :crying:
Get them a big fierce dog and take it round their house , whether they want it or not. your cat will come back of its own free will
But yea, i agree completely, what are they on ?, if you see something of theirs that you fancy just take it… but be willing to exchange it for one cat.

seriously, i have heard cats often feed at various places, wether they are given food or not!
i have four cats, they alwasy come back, i wouldnt have a clue if tehy was beign fed elsewhere!
but they are being silly, maybe when old bill turned up they wiull take it bit more seriously and realise its not their cat, you are its owner and keeper:)
This happened to a mate of mine with his cat a few years ago, the neighbour started feeding it, he asked them not to, they agreed but carried on feeding the cat anyway, eventually the cat didn’t come back, he went looking for it and the woman kicked up saying it had been her cat all along, fortunately it was chipped so she had to give it back but unfortunately like you Gabs he had to get the old bill involved, sadly even though he got his cat back he didn’t trust his neighbour any more and eventually re-homed the cat with someone else he knew…
I don’t get the mentality of these people either, they are just freaks!
Thats so mean, I feel for you, I’d be terribly upset if something happened to one of our kittys (and so would Chaos although he wouldn’t admit it being a big tough biker ;)).
Hope you get it all sorted soon Gabs, and such a shame you’ve had to involve the police, some people are just plain stupid!
Awww Gabs i hope you get your cat back:w00t: i had this happen lots of years ago amazing how someone hands back things when theyve had a smack in the mouth lol ok…so it aint the answer but it worked for me;) So tomorrow you’ll be doing some catnapping!!
I would be so annoyed! Glad you went to the police. It’s so low the way the slowly trying to tease ur cat away from you. Hate people like that… they always seem to be really smug about it too!
As Samm says, smack em…with a vets bill and they’ll soon hand the cat back!
Get a dog that barks all the time and that’ll annoy them…then say you’ll give the dog back to its owner if they give you back the cat. What I’m saying is…you wanna borrow my dog for a week without her special collar! ;)
What an awful situation. I had similar but the neighbour (who was feeding my moggie) complained to me that the cat was always round there!! I asked them to stop with any food, which they eventually did, and (surprise, surprise) the cat stopped bothering them. Fickle or what?
Your neighbours sound absolute idiots. I hope this gets resolved for you.
Absolutely gutted for you and also didnt realise this was a common issue. I have a cat that regularly pops round to my garden. Hangs round and gets stroked and tickled but thats it. I would never dream of feeding it or even letting it into my home.
Are these people completely stupid? Of course the cat is going to hang around them if they keep feeding it, that’s what cats do. Hopefully they will stop after police intervention.
Yep sorry that you are living next to brainless weirdos, if you feed a cat it will return. Maybe you can get your cat weighed and see if it is putting on weight, and if it is, then get the RSPCA involved for cruelty (or at least say you are )
Cats will follow food, simple as, hope the police get a result.
The Policeman got assaulted when he went round to ask them to stop feeding the cat. They apparently “threw” the cat out. Mark and I spent best part of an hour in the rain with a torch trying to find her. We eventually found her under a hedge at the end of the road. It was nice to see that she was up to her old self and promptly ran up a tree to ‘hide’. She always did that as a kitten to see if I could chase her Mark managed to grab her and we took her home.
The difficult thing is what to do next. I don’t know if you know, but when you move house, you’re advised to keep the cat/s in for two weeks to help them acclimatise. We are keeping her in for a couple of weeks. We were up late installing a door (because we had taken them all down to make it open plan from the lounge). I spent a couple of hours asleep on the sofa with her. Once the two weeks are up, we’ll decide what to do. Options include removing the cat flap and moving house (we need a better garage anyway).
It couldnt have come at a worse time. One of the reasons Ive not been on LB lately is Ive been totally swamped with work since I got back from the Christmas break. Again, thanks.
