Alarms

Need some thoughts and opinions of what’s the best alarm out there, as I am thinking about replacing the annoying piece of sh1te that I had fitted to my bike when it was new…the Datatool S4 must be the most annoying, unreliable, unpredictable and difficult to use pile of junk I’ve ever had the misfortune to suffer. It’s got to go, preferably back to Datatool after I’ve compacted it with a hammer.

So, what devices does the LB community recommend to a long-suffering victim?

honda hiss* + xena alarmed disclock is the best option imo

*honda motorcycle required

Alarms are crap…
All that will happen is a noisy bike getting nicked…

i site user error. the S4 is one of the best/better ones on the market. i suggest you maybe dont know how to use it properly…
if you are planning on swapping it for something else, then i wouldnt bother refitting one. they will all be much worse than the S4

Just use a big lock & chain!

Erm, how can it be user error when I park the bike, leave it standing, then at an undetermined time (could be hours or days) it goes off for no reason? I’ve even been nearby and witness this happen! It also emits an annoying high-pitched tone if the main battery’s charge gets too low…usually this happens in the middle of the night.

One of the better alarms…I really don’t think so. The older S3 on my other bike is far more reliable and user-friendly.

I use one of these at home, of course, but the insurance companies insist on a CAT1 alarm being fitted. :frowning:

This one sounds interesting for the price… The Advanced V3 motorcycle alarm system http://www.motorbikealarm.co.uk/node/27

I’d like to hear peoples opinions too on different alarm systems.

if it goes off on its on its because the sensitivity is too high. this can be adjusted.

i was/am an installer and have always found the problems to be easily rectified. either that or (most common) the original installer was a lazy bastid who didnt do a proper job and that causes problems

I just removed datashite from my Speed Triple. Instead of wasting your money on alarms get some tracking device (gps signal) or install mobile phone with pay as you go (giffgaff) with tracking software (gps and network signal). And You can check where is your bike 24/7 every sec., setup virtual fence and every time when bike will be moved you’ll receive a message.

I have this alarm, as do AndyCR15 and DanielGT. I installed it myself (I’m good with electrics). I have to say I was somewhat disappointed with the factory quality control - I had three replacement main units before I finally got a good working one. On the plus side, the guy who sells them is very good, provides great technical support over the phone, and understands how the things work (each time he was able to confirm my diagnosis of a bad unit when I explained the readings I was getting at various points). However, now that it’s all working, I’m quite happy with it.

When I first got it, it was set way too sensitive, but now it’s been turned right down. It’s just inconsistent and unreliable.

Alarms can be handy, someone tried to lift my bike from out the front of my house, in day light, wasn’t chained at the time and we heard the alarm from in the house , rushed out and they scarpered I n a transit van, moved bike to mate garage up the road and low and behold the same van was cruising around about an hour later…

So in this case alarm did what it should have, alerted me

Agreed Toppa, was thanks to my Datatool S3 that I discovered scum were getting in my ‘approved secure bike storage unit’ at night, removing panels & soldering in bypass wiring before putting everything back and leaving ready to come back for the bike at a later date, probably well armed to cut the three chains off too.

Had it not been for me checking the alarm for recent triggers I’d have lost gixxer number 2. Granted the actual siren wasn’t heard but the alarm still did its job for me.

A tracker would just show me where I might find some remains of my bike… :ermm:

I find the S3 to be a decent and reliable alarm…it’s the S4 that I find to be an unreliable and annoying piece of shite.lol

I’ve had S4 on my Fazer and now on the Triumph and they always worked well. Occasionally, I noticed, when it gets really cold and windy it may go off randomly but generally they’ve served me well.
Only 3-4 months ago, I was woken up by the alarm going off to find 2 little scrotes on scooters fiddling with the lock at 5AM
