Alarm cost

looking at getting an alarm fitted to the bike, datatool or meta, helps the insurance abit, anyone had one fitted recently? how much was it?

Unless your paying both arms and a leg for you insurance the whole arrangement is Sh*te.

You spend £250, say, on a decent alarm with Thatcham 3 approval and they give you, what, 10% discount? Is the pay back period shorter than the time you intend to own the bike?

Even if your paying £1,000 a year, it’s going to take 2 1/2 years or more to get parity and that’s assuming the (1 year) guaranteed thing don’t go wrong and need fixing.

Ever wondered why you can get a bloody good alarm off ebay for £30 but it is not Thatcham approved/graded?

Look into the Tatcham finances and their tie ins to major insurance companies. Don’t be fazed by their bluster about all this wonderfull development work in testing they do. All that is flim flam. It’s a run for profit business and a farce.

Go buy a deterent alarm on ebay for a few quid. Buy a decent “Sold Secure” lock and chain.

(You still have the lock and chain for the next bike, so that’s an investment.)

Now there’s a coincidence.

Have a look at the “removing a datatool alarm” thread currently running.

Then make up you own mind.

My mate Paul who owns Caesar alarms fits Meta’s for about £170

His numbers 07770 794445 even if you just wanna chat about alarms, hes not a pushy salesman & will give you good honest advice

I agree with Oldguy, I’d rather spend the money on a good anchor & Almax etc or a Tracker.

Almax here and fitted an alarm myself for less than £25 with parts from Maplins… Does not drain the battery. Someone moves my bike a bloody loud siren goes off. First they have to get through the Almax though…

I know a certified installer and he is excellent always does my bikes (He is mobile so thats good)

Prices vary depending on what you want.

PM me if interested.

Joe

My mates mobile too & certified

Oi

:D:D:D

Ha ha :stuck_out_tongue: Always good to know a decent auto-sparky

cheers guys, i ordered a new bike and i wanted an alarm on it, the shop have offered to do it at ‘cost’, so i wondered realistically what that was.

Im not a big fan of alarms but with an alarm on it it’ll make a racket if people fiddle with it and if its in the garage locked and alarmed it helps me sleep better!

i know the insurance thing is one big con…
