I got up early this morning and rode up to Wichita’s Mid-Continent Airport to witness a flyover by an Airbus A380. Airbus has an office here in Wichita…they do all engineering, no manufacturing…and Airbus threw them a bone by having the A380 flyover to showcase their work.Wichita is know as the Air Capital City as it is home to Cessna, Lear Jet, Raytheon, Beechcraft, Boeing and Spirit Aerosystems (my employer!)
Here are a couple of the pics…I apologize for the quality…my digital camera is pants.
i saw it when it came into lhr a few months back, and was surprised how quite it was, but its a big old bus though, wouldnt fancy being a baggage handler having to unload it!
british wings and engines…only 2m longer than a 747 and about 15m wider across the wingspan but can carry double the number of passengers…upto 800…now that is a cattle truck…but what a beauty…
wings able to carry a load upto 750 tons that is a lot of aircraft, I think the 747 maximum is upto 600 tons which was the world record until the an225 hit 640 tonnes thats the 6 engined monster built in Russia, but the 380 will eventually beat them all…amazing aircraft…
It’s bloody massive, I’ve seen it fly a few hundred feet overhead as well and it’s just so imposing. I didn’t know Witchita had such an aviation industry. You learn something new every day!
