After a lot of finnicky work today to replace my foot brake lever, my bike is now road worthy again cough. I just took it on it’s maiden voyage to the store where I bought some steaks to BBQ to celebrate the occasion Grinning ear to ear now… Missed it so much in the last week, there’s just nothing that beats the fun of being on a bike.
Bike rides perfectly fine, despite being not 100% straight anymore but who cares! It will still get me around… As Charlie noted on another occasion it’s a “proper courier bike”. Who cares if it’s a little bent here and there, at least I’m not stressing about dropping it.
Thanks to everybody who has supported me through this difficult time – namely Barro, Flattie, Adam H (for cheering me up when it was much much needed), Sickpup and Chris (for supplying vital bits to get my bike back on the road).
On the whole I spent 250 quid on parts and a week of my time wrenching on the bike, doing all the work myself, which isn’t too bad and was a great opportunity to learn about my machine and how it all hangs together.
i nearly took out a pedestrian this morning, running between cars whilst im at min 30 on outside, everything was a blur, didnt have time to brake or beep, i was soo close the air turbulance is probably what caused him to pause!!
really shook me up, closest ive came to hitting one!
Hey man, they’re my abrasion burns not yours right
Anyhow, 1 1/2 weeks down the line the road rash doesn’t really hurt anymore, but the sore muscles and back still do… which wouldn’t have been prevented by a jacket anyhow.
And Andrew: yeah 250 is cheap considering the recovery of the bike cost 278… bunch of ******s.
Nice one ITM but what happens when your above a tone on a bent bike its going to be real shakey & tarmac surfing isn’t that much fun, take care and have fun all the same
Hear ya mate, hear ya, but don’t worry it’s not the frame that’s bent – it’s just the fork bridge which I will replace with a bit from the scrapyard eventually. What this causes is if you are going dead straight the handlebars aren’t a precise 90 degree angle to the direction you are travelling in. Handling characteristics are not affected at all, the bike tracks straight perfectly even with my hands off the bars, it just doesn’t look pretty (but then my bike never has, and was never meant to.) It’s just the piece of metal the forks are sitting in being a few mm’s pushed in on one side.
Will sort it when I find the bit and have a spare day to pull the front end apart again… definitely fixable though.
I’m becoming a mechanical expert over this though, which is cool…
