After market switchgear? And bar end mirrors?

Am doing up my old hornet, it’s already got a set of straight renthals on it and to finish things off I’m looking for the following:Anyone know if anyone does basic aftermarket motorcycle switchgear - basic range of functions - kill/ignition/lights rhs and indicators/high beam/choke lever lhs.

Bar end mirrors - look good but do they work? Heard tell they are sh1t at being mirrors. Gonna commute on this bike so need mirrors that work as well as look good.

Any advice/opinions appreciated! ;)

~I’ve just found loads of switches!

I found that bar-end mirrors often make the bike too wide when commuting.

Buzzbuzz!

Yep G, although junking the oe mirrors and replacing them with bar end mirrors makes the bike look a lot cleaner and cooler - the extra two or three inches on the bars would definitely cramp my style when I’m trying to barge my way through west end traffic! I’ve also heard they are not very practical in terms of telling you whats going on behind you - which again is no good for motorway and town riding when you really do need that kind off info.

Like the hornet pic - gonna try and source a similar decal to go on the tank after I’ve resprayed it.

This Blackburn multi mirror looks good because it seems like you can fold it down and inwards if you want to do some tight filtering. http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/motorcycle-accessories-misc/motrax-micro-bar-end-mirrors/

I’ve been looking at which mirrors to stick onto my Hornet to replace the ugly OE jobbies. In fact, walking around the show at the NEC, think the missus was getting bored of “ooooh those ones are nice - ooooooh those ones are nice” … but not actually looking at the bikes :DWhilst not bar end jobbies - Z750/Z1000 mirrors are quite nice : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/KAWASAKI-MIRROR-RIGHT-Z750-Z1000-2008-NEW-EK677D-/180604563832?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2a0cdef178 and if you want to be tarty, you can get aftermarket jobbies with integrated indicators : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Integrated-Mirrors-Z1000-Z750-ER6f-ER6n-ER6-VN-Versys-/280508326872?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item414f9963d8

Tuono mirrors are also quite decent : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/APRILIA-PEGASO-TUONO-SHIVER-LEFT-MIRROR-/380295573795?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item588b61f123 or http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Aprilia-Tuono-125-1000-MIRRORS-Pair-/170564174378?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item27b66ac22a

I like the idea of bar end mirrors - but I’d rather see behind me than look good.

Let us know if you find anything else interesting

Had a mirror like that motrax one on the zephyr - actually could see more than any other bike I’ve had in it! No elbows in the way, and a convex stylee makes it possible to actually see cars in the left lane when in the middle lane in the motorway (when looking in the right mirror)

get these mirrors, heard great stuff about them and, unlike motrax stuff, they are big enough to see behind you, planning to get some myself.

Thanks for the suggestions and recommendations fellas! :)I guess some work better than others

I’ll have a look at all the mirrors and take some time to reflect. . . . . (tee hee).

i have the z1000 mirrors on mine (may be outside your budget) but the point is that although i can see loads they stick out more than the barends making filtering ‘interesting’

i think they make life harder that barends would as you judge gaps by the bar ends not the mirrors. took some getting used to.

so if you do get aftermarket ones make sure they line up with the end of the bars

Thanks Pan - ideally I want some mirrors that will fold in sideways for tight filtering. Sure I saw some somewhere?

Just looking to make the lines of the bike look cleaner and more individual.

Will probably stick on a belly pan and after market can too.

Rear shock is seriously shagged - don’t want to spend 300 quid on a hagon so wondering if it’s worth going the breaker route - e.g. ideally want to get my hands on a shock off of a low mileage bike that got totalled.

as far as i know an old shock will be a waste of money… :ermm: unless your shock is shocking :Whistling: crap then it might be better spending a bit more

I tell you what are really swish and exactly what you want but no doubt a million times more than you could ever justify spending - Hypermotard - integrated/folding handguard/mirrors

And when folded in:

Phwoar

Yes that’s them! :w00t::smiley: I was wondering where I saw those type of mirrors! I thought I was fantasising at one point! Thanks Mr-C!:DWill have to see if anyone is doing a cheaper pattern version!

This design by CRG looks pretty good, and it folds for filtering:http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-bar-end-mirrors/crg-mirrors.htm

On my old hornet with renthal bars and a bar end on the lhs and a cheap bar end mirror on the rhs i never had a problem with filtering 30+ miles a day to work and back then being out in the evenings too.

It makes you a bit more aware of the gaps your trying to get through, but yea, never had a problem with that.

And you can see more then enough out the bar end mirrors.

Thanks SMF, good to know.

NJ where did you find the switchgear? Ta…

I found the following supplier - they are selling basic aftermarket motorcycle switchgear to quad riders who want to make their quads road legal.

The switchgear is cheaper (by about half) than OE (Honda charge about 90 quid for the rhs ignition/kill/indicator switchgear for example). If I can’t get switchgear from a breakers then I’m going down this route.

Cheers. Looking for a bar mounted switch for my spotlights - they have just the thing
