Adz OMG my motor's falling apart thread!!

Well…

few weeks ago i found loads of metal shards in my oil!!

yes all that shiny stuff is metal!

so time to try and find out what it is… strated stripping the motor bit by bit to see far i have to go to find out whats falling apart…

inspected the right hand side of the engine, clutch is out all looks good in there, primary gear is tight.

Looked at the stator and all is fine in there…

The big end seems ok so it look like the main bearings are on there way out…

so ill have to split the cases.

might as well do it all now so barrel is getting a re-plate iv got a new piston to go in, new mains on there way and may as well do the big end too!!

also got a new timing chain to go on…

old piston and new one…

while im waiting for bits iv stripped the head and cleaned the ports and lapped the valves in.

dont look much but this head looked the same as the top of the old piston in the pic above before i cleaned it!!

nice job mate!

I thought it was Ducatis that were supposed to make mechanics out of riders tho???

nice:cool:

be rude not to port it while its all apart dude:D

who does it and how much does it come man?

we can do it anything from 100 to 180 dude.

hummm funds are tight at the moment lee…

so today iv been checking axial play in the crank…

0.1mm haha not unuff

getting in there now…

Right the missis has gone out so its home baking time!!

in the oven…

in the freezer…

on the kitchen floor…

foook me im starting to wish i hadnt used that 50/50 petrol diesel mix i had left over from a mates little garage mishap to wash the crank cases out…

the oven is smoking a bit  and it stinks!!

oh my my she is going to be pissed off when she gets in…

i was going to put my air filters in the washing machine but i think that may be pushing my luck… :w00t:

you gona get it when she comes back :stuck_out_tongue:

Genuine question … because I’m sure there is a reason … but why the fugg would bits of engine ever need to go in the oven or freezer?

the physics of expansion and contraction of metals

the bearings are interference fit, freezing them contacts them a bit so you can fit them in the hot cases…

Makes perfect sense  Ta

 just make sure you don’t accidentally put the garden peas into the engine instead of the bearings.

Great thread BTW Adz, wish I could do all that stuff.

ok so old bearings out and new ones in…

iv got my crank back so next job is shimming it for the right axial play

hahahaha Adz your a star!

Love your style

some progress…

got all the new bits back in the cases… man why do ktm put shift rolls and springs in there gearboxes!!

bits that can fall out…

cases back together and new piston fitted

barrel back on

then saw the bloody base gasket was the wrong way up and had to refit it all… :w00t:

strange KTM oil pumps refitted… the star shaped thing… theres one on the other side too…

looking more like a motor now!!

should be done by new week!! brrroooooommmm…

Great thread but more importantly, did the missus do you some dumplings for your crankcase caserole?:D:P

no she made me clean the oven!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

right all back together now…

brand new clutch…

been riding her today yeeehharr :stuck_out_tongue:
