Advice sought CBR6 owners past & present

Thinking of buying a low miles CBR600 f-s '95 as a commuter bike.

Seems like a reasonable deal as the bike is really clean, but wondered what are the common issues with this bike?

Any advice appreciated on what potential problems to look for before I buy the bike.

Thanks.

I had an '99 FX/FY one and cam chain tensioners a common prob on that (ticking when cold). Went on mine after about 30k, but cheap and easy to fix. Collector boxes can rot on them as well - honda replacement exhausts are spenny and cheaper Delkevic ones heavy - so see if its already been done.

Cracking bike though for what it does.

Been riding my FS (95) every day for two years, it does everything it says on the tin;) Good for anything (apart from off roading;)) Ive just replaced the CCT at 28000, (£36 from dave silvers) + the normal service parts, I cant Praise the CBR enough, others will disagree of course, but for me they are pretty much ‘bullit proof’ and a great all round performer.

The good old Steely CBR is a cracking bike and as mentioned, as long as you keep a watch on the CCT they will go on and on. We used ro race CBR6’s in 8 hour Endurance races and never once had an engine let go.

I had '95 CBR6 for a couple of years. CCT rattled, but was never replaced. Standard downpipes rusted through at the collector box, so I replaced with stainless. Other than that, it was reliable and a trusty steed!

Food for thought, thanks guys, any more probs anyone??

So far it’s CCT & rotten exhausts then??

Obviously rotten zorst is an esy one to check for, but CCT?? What’s the check? If rattly at start up does this indicate a problem?? And how serious could it be? Am I right to think it’s not a ‘walk away & don’t buy the bike’ problem, but if it’s apparent it’s one to get sorted?? Am I right?

it’s more of an annoyance than a problem you can get it replaced but it can fail at any time really unless you get a manuel one and check it every once and a while. pretty cheap to fix if you want it to be done though. great bikes all in all though. I’ve had an 00 CBR6 and an 07 RR7 and both ran perfect all the time.

I loved my '97 FV. Only problem I had was the cooling fan seizing and blowing fuses then overheating in a red light district in Nantes of all places. That was an adventure.

Other than that it was bombproof!

I had an '02 FS and currently have an '07 RR. Both trusty steeds and I never had any problems with the FS and nothing so far with the RR.

Had my 93" since 2004. Only ride weekends so don’t do a lot of mileage.

regulator/rectifier is only problem iv’e had, other than that its brilliant.
