Can anyone on here especially you I.T bod’s reccomend a good (not £700) secured wireless router?? Also where to buy them that you reccomend?
After having my broadband installed (only have a fast laptop not PC) don’t want to be restricted to one place?

I would get a Netgear box, nice and cheap like the DG834G and they do the job well enough unless you have business/secret data to protect then the Cisco 877W (about £400) is a great box but it’s not easy to configure. Cheap wireless can sometimes not extend very far but you should be able to cover most of a normal 3 or 4 bed house with the Netgear.

My advice would be to pick up a Draytek Vigor unit. The 2800 is brill and very easy to setup, extremely secure (stops P2P and IM if you want, just to name a bit) and this is coming from an ex-CiscoTAC engineer!
The 2800VG is my choice and its roughly 150 quid with shipping and what not!
I looked into this a while back and ended up getting the Draytek Vigor 2800VG. As Morgawr says, its easy to setup (I’m no techie) and I haven’t had any trouble with it. I’ve read about the Netgear units failing and then the customer service/support wasn’t very good. When I had trouble with my adsl line, I thought it was the router and the Draytek helpdesk helped me resolve the problem even though it wasn’t their product causing the trouble.
I install a lot of modem/routers, and picked up a Philips one in Tesco today (because I hadn’t seen one before and wanted to test it), complete with a USB wifi dongle for GBP45.
It has more configuration options than I’ve seen on GBP400 routers! Ideally suited to those who want fine control over their networks, but piss-easy to set up for a ‘standard’ DHCP+NAT network. Mine uses neither, and that was dead easy too, together with scheduling, QOS, comprehensive filters, very good.
