I have recently purchased a lovely gsxr600 k6 and loving every minute of it. It has a nearing replacement pair of Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa tyres which i believe are fast road/track tyres and used in BSB SS. (120/70ZR17 & 180/55ZR17).
Im looking for advice to what to replace them with, ideally id like a tyre with good dry weather grip and capable in the wet. Im not looking for anything as extreme as the tyres on there at the moment as i wont be tracking it riding like a loon Any advice suggestions?
Michelin Pilot Power 2CT’s. Excellent grip levels in all weather and last pretty long as well (I changed my rear at 6000 miles which also included 7 trackdays, only because I was heading to France otherwise I would have had a few more hundred out of it)
Are PR2 not a different profile though? I ask because I took your good advice and stuck one on the back of the SV which is great, but I am grinding pegs and still have chicken strips whereas before I didn’t…no problem really, and the grip is as good IMO but just interesting.
Could be. I found the Pilot Road 2 slower steering than the Pilot Power 2CT but I’ve tried a 190/50 and 190/55 rear PP 2CT, the latter would help the bike steer quicker so I may not have been comparing like for like.
I’m pretty sure you can’t get a PR2 in a /55 profile.
The main thing is that Michelin say a Power 2CT front and Pilot Road 2 rear can work ok.
Yeah it definitely ran fine, did my track day on the combo, just wondering if it was a common side-effect or maybe I had a different size by mistake…will have to have a look at the tyre size some time
I don’t know if you have sorted your hoops yet but I have just replaced my 2ct’s with Metzeler Sportec M5’s and am amazed at the difference. Im very impressed with the “feel” from these tyres. Ive tried various types on my K6 including Pirelli Diablo corsa 3’s and Michelin power 2ct’s and can’t fault either of those makes either. Ive not tried the Metzelers on track yet but have to say the Michelins in my opinion were better than the Pirelli. We really are spoilt for choice nowadays. Hope that helps.
Ive got pilot road 2 front and back (190-55). Recently did my first track day on them and i can report that you cant ride off the edge, grip is absoluntly fine and tyre life doesnt look like is ever going to dissapate. But if you think you need the egde, then get the pilot power for the front like Afro said. But all i will say is that I chuck my b1 round as many roundabouts as the next loon, i regulaly get toe down and i can say that the front end is planted…just ask ratty about my legandary lean angles that make rossi jelous :w00t:
