Had my A2 RE-test at 12.38pm at Chingford in the pouring miserable heavy Rain - GREAT!!! instructor followed me in the luxury of his cosy car
I’d been fretting all day over u-turns (its what i failed on in my first test at the Hendon centre)…come test he told me to ride further down, do the u-turn and return to where he was standing - did it - ACED IT!
He then got me to go round the block for the emergency stop, already my nerves where playing up, there must have been another 6 bikers on the same stretch of road training + i could see em watching me! yuck! :ermm:
So he puts his hands in the air and go for the front brake BUT also went down on my rear brake quite heavily (thinking i need to stabilise this bike cos i felt it slipping too) In effect i started to wobble and could have dropped it but luckly got control of it and ITS THIS I failed on :crying:
I dont know whether it was the change in weather that did it, cos morning training session it wasnt raining & my emergency stops were fine.
Whats WORSE!!! was one of his TEll Me/Show me questions WAS how would you brake effectively in a emergency - and i gave him the right answer! - at the end of the test he said though you told me how to do it you didnt put that into practice - I feel shameful at that then again am i trying to blame the horrid weather I duno :Whistling:
I’m so gutted tho! Invested well over a grand training to get myself where i am now & i just seem to have the worst luck!!!
Oh well now i need to think whether i really want to put myself through the agro of this new test - Slaloms and figure of 8’s nice!!! I hate it!
PS: stevie u wasnt the only one today + u got lucky with your emgency stop - sounds like what might of happened with me? :s
Chin up mate. Keep at it cos you know it’ll be worth it in the end. Slaloms and figure eights are great. Just remember to keep your knees in and youll get there.
Ah mate - that’s a real bummer :(Still - a few positives in there - you ACED your u-turn that’s a weakness conquered so that’s something to be proud of.You cocked up you emergency stop in the driving rain - no shame in that. I’ve never locked up my back wheel until today - it happens, it’s just a git when it does. You got your Tell Me Show Me’s right - so you know the theory well enough. The rest of it obviously went well if it was the emergency stop that he failed you on, so you done well overall - take heart in that.As far as the new test goes, well, there ain’t nothing in it that you didn’t do in either the CBT, the old test or in everyday riding (I bet you’ve swerved to avoid things :D) - it just means doing it in controlled conditions.Keep at it fella - keep going on the rideouts on here and you’ll get there - you’ve obviously got the passion so all you need is more practice
Sorry to hear that, dude - but as Stevie says, the new test won’t cover anything you haven’t already done a hundred times on the road.
Don’t give up - I know you must feel incredibly frustrated, but imagine how great you’ll feel when you do pass. It’ll be just in time for the summer, too!
i drop it on the emergency stop my first test. It was also wet that day and was the first time i dropped the bike:w00t: i glad i did it then, but getting out of the road myself and doing that.
The problem is that according to teh DSA’s guidence to examiners which is published on their website, the emergency stop has to be conducted under full control demonstrating that the candidate can stop as quickly and safely as possible. Locking up a wheel implies not being in ful lcontrol, and not stopping as quickly as possible.
But the examiners do have discretion on interpreting those rules. Given the conditions and the stress that can be encountered then it can be seen as harsh.
Also I wonder if they take into account bikes with ABS, as that requires a different emergency braking technique.
True true - I locked up the rear yesterday as well (in the rain, on my A2, same as Dev) but recovered it by letting off and reapplying as soon as I felt it lock and I didn’t get marked down for it.
The published guidence covers linked brakes, ABS, full autos, auto clutches, gear preselection systems, various types of parking brake, cars with gear change pedals, anti-rollback systems and all sorts - it is only 242 pages long not including annexes!
