They are supposed to be better than cheaper brands like Oxford but not as good as Almax. I had an Abus lock and chain given to me with my first bike but it got left somewhere…long story but I had no issues with it while I had it.
zanx use to do it at the shows but when asked to do an almax he would say will do 1 l8r and get a load of pepes in 1 go rather thean 1 at a time cos unlike the sh1te chains the almax would break the bolt croppers, when asked if they were blunt he would put new blades on too.
Worth noting. The Almax Immob IV is so big, it might not fit through your bike easily and may well end up scratching it up. But hey - a scratched bike is better than no bike!
The larger Peugeot scooters come with ABUS chains as an option. I have one, and they are bloody heavy and cleverly lock from underneath the seat, so there is no external lock to pick.
Yes well obviously you put it through the wheel only when you are parked in a standard Westminster motorcycle bay - ie, when there is nothing secure to chain it to and just hang on…
Get almax, not much more money. I bought an ABUS and not had any problems but wasn’t too much cheaper than almax and hindsight I’d have bought the latter.
Oh come on vids made by Almax, they spend the first 2 minutes fecking about with the almax chain, they clearly aint going at it as heavily as the other tests.
On the second test “proved to last 5 minutes” they stand around chatting for at least 45 seconds.
Sure I dont dispute the almax is loads better and is unbolt-croppable which can only be a good thing but any thief worth his salt will bring a disc cutter and its bye bye bike.
My point is, if they want it badly enough they will have it. All you can do is deter them.
I used to sell Abus locks and have been to the factory in Germany.
An excellent product (not biased anymore) and Abus is (or was then at least) the biggest manufacturer of these sorts of security products in Europe.
When in the factory I had a massive pair of bolt cutters and an A0037 padlock shackle to try and cut through it and there was absolutelly no chance. One of my colleagues was a burly rugby player and he couldn’t manage it.
All depends which level of product you buy, PM me if you want anymore info.
Almax here. And they do a very good line in ground anchors. If you give them a ring (get the number from the website someone posted earlier) they’re really helpful on the phone too, and you might be able to wiggle yourself into some discount or a Kriega bag to put the chain in.
thanks everyone for your tips and comments, it’s greatly appreciated. For now (needed one right away) I have bought an ABUS and will order the Almax. I will have to try and measure it so I am sure it will fit through the wall fixing, not much point if I cannot attached it
