I really hope this doesn’t come across as anything but caring… PPE is proper important, I get why you are angry.
You pressume the damage was done in one day- “worn once” previously - but who knows how many times they were actually worn if sold as second hand. Maybe they got duped into thinking they were the real deal too? Maybe the seller will be mortified when they hear what happened?
Try to think of ot as a learning curve. You had a really good deal on the other gear by the sounds of it - lucky you both noticed the damage before the protection was relied upon.
I hope this hasn’t put your Mrs off from touring with you.

How old are they?
Even though they may have only been worn the once, the plastic may have become brittle if they’ve been left sat unboxed for a few years due to the UV rays in sunlight.
