coz the one that broke did not have the locking ball so I want the same
The locking ball makes no difference. If there is a groove for the locking ball to pop into it will. If there aint, it’s just pressed back and stays there.

Your choice - but you may lose a few sockets into inpenetrable panels (or engines) without it. Why try to make your kit as cheapo as your old kit?
You need balls with your sockets if you know what I mean… Best thing as they do stop sockets disappearing into the dark recesses of your bike/engine/frame.
