I hate looking or reading anything that involves riders dying on our roads whether at fault or not. But from time to time we all, no matter how good we are or think we are - we all need to see the consequences of getting it wrong or just the the result of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I wear gear and I ride faster than I should on the road too often. I have had my fare share of accidents to date which is 6, and 2 of those at high speed - 60mph and over. To this day I have been very lucky.
Riding bike, whether fast or not is like playing Poker…a numbers game, get your calculations wrong and the price can cost you your life!!
Keep enjoying your bike but when playing hard, always keep in mind how vulnerable you/we all actually are.
I don’t need a reminder, I pursue claim on behalf of road traffic accident victims. All you can do is keep your wits about ya and not be tempted into doing anything silly on the road no matter how tempted you are.
That’s grim as fook! All too easy to go over the line though and up a candidate for that site. If you ride within your limits, stay observant and wear some gear, chances are you’ll be fine, but do what that woman did last Sunday at the Ace and remove the saftey net, then you’re asking for trouble and will pay a high price for it.
Interesting the lack of leather usage in there!!! In some cases it wouldn’t help but at least the mothers would have an open coffin… Don’t want to see it and don’t want to think about it! I just ride it as safe as I can and respect the fact that in an event of an accident, never mind whos right or wrong, I’m the one who will get hurt… Be safe all
Eurgh! … very grim! … some more advocates of “how not to dress on a bike” on that site! … I have a name for the guys/girls who wear no protection in the Summer … Skin Graft Boys/Girls!
Really? I call them stupid, but perhaps that’s too damning, I mean, we’ve all done it in the past, but most of us have learn from our (sometimes painful) lessons.
Quite interesting to see that Florida did have a law requiring bikers to wear a helmet, but repealed it in 2000, resulting in a massive increase in head injuries. Why on earth would they repeal a law like that???
Because its a free world. I dont think there should be laws for seatbelts/helmets, everyone is responsible for their own life and people shouldnt need to be forced by law.
I beg to differ. If you don’t wear a helmet/seatbelt, have an accident and die, it’s not just you who’s affected: what about your children (who the society now has to support if you’re the main earner in the household) and what about the third party, he’ll for ever carry on his conscience the fact that he killed another person (even if the accident was your fault).
Also, what if you don’t die but spend the next 20 years in a vegetative state in an NHS hospital? Have you got insurance to pay for all that or is it the taxpayer who picks up the tab? I’d rather my taxes went to medical research and looking after young leukaemia victims than keeping alive an RTA victim who chose to ride/drive without a helmet/seatbelt.
I have to agree with Paivi, it’s so much the exception that only the person who dies is affected that it’s not even usable as a justification, imo! There are so many people affected by a death that it’s actually very, very selfish to assume we have only ourselves to hurt by our actions. Some things need to be in place to ensure the whole of society is protected, and helmet laws are one of them. Just look at the woman at the Ace on Sunday, word is she was a tourist, so who picks up the NHS bill? Us as taxpayers most likely, and that means someone else can’t get the proper care they require, i.e. someone could be on a waiting list for something and dies before their turn comes up, all because there weren’t enough funds to do the operation before! It happens every-day.
I could go into one about people who sue the NHS as well, but that’s probably best left untouched
