A Little bit F**king Annoyed

Last Tuesday I picked up my Fazer 1000 from a dealer. He’s been in the game a few years now. Very nice man. Didn’t tell any lies about the bike.Paid my money and off I went. I’d had a look at it a couple of weeks before hand and a wee test ride.
I get home and decide to give it the once over. Can’t be too careful.
Whoa… Oil almost empty ! Rear brake fluid Resevoir almost empty ! Chain as slack as a very slack chain ! Clutch way off the correct adjustment !
Oh well , its a good job i know a little , so I’ll put things right. Oil and filter change and top up the brake fluid , tighten the chain…
I know , I’ll have a look at the brake pads…
Yup , thats fine (only checked one side of the front… Doh !!!)
Rode into work today and it’s just not right… Checked the brakes again… The other side this time !!!
The picture if it’s displayed tells the story. Nothing. Absolutely no pad left at all.
The photo shows the old pad on the bottom and a new pad just prior to fitting half an hour ago.
Having now changed pads on both sides I can see what happened.
Someone (previous owner or a service dealer) has only changed one side. There was enough left on the other side for about 500miles.
I can’t believe it. Gobsmacked.
It’s a Fazer 1000 , 2 years old.
Lesson learnt… Pass it on ! Whoever you buy from , get it checked out first. There really are some cowboys out there.
I won’t name the dealer as yet until I have had a word and see what the reply is… The service history is from a company near Vauxhall bridge in the Metropolis… Name escapes me at present.
Moan over… Will be doing the rear ones next week…

Can thoroughly reccomend Loui Jane and the team at Hein Gericke Gants Hill. Great people and good tea !!!

jesus christ!!!

well spotted there that man…bluddy good job you checked…imagine if that was a new rider?..they could of been killed!!!

hope everything good with the bike now mate, nothing worse than buying something only to have it fall apart.

keep us updated;).

smiled:D.

That really is toilet:crazy:

That is a major safety issue and I hope the dealer deals with it to your satisfaction. If they don’t you should get onto your local Trading Standards Office

I agree with both post that is totaly outrageous and bloody dangerous, good job you spotted it before you needed them in an emergency let us know what the shop says, safe riding one and all.

so wot your really saying is you didnt look the bike over very well b4 you bought it?
most of the things you mentioned are quite visible, chain tension, oils level, brake level and if ya look close enough brake pads.

If ya saw these ya could have got some more cash off as you said easyto rectify.

That’s about it in a nutshell… Couldnt agree more. Should have checked and didnt. My fault for not picking it up at point of sale , but still doesn’t excuse the seller from telling me. If he had said , oh and now that I’ve got your money , I should tell you that you need to do this this and this to make it safe to ride I would have said “Hello Halifax , can you just hold that last payment for a minute please”
Am going to email him now.
Just for the record , I didnt buy the bike from a dealers in Vauxhall , that’s where all the service records relate to including a brake pad change !

I’m a bit confused now. Firt you say you got it from a dealer now you say it wasn’t a dealer.

If it was sold to you by a dealer you would be covered by Sale of Goods Act which states any item sold should be fit for purpose and the brakes on that bike are obviously not.

I bought it from a dealer. Not the dealer who did the servicing. The bike came with a service history. Those services including changing brake pads which were carried out at a dealer near Vauxhall Bridge in the METROPOLIS. I did not buy the bike from them . I bought it from a different dealer. I have emailed that dealer and await his comments.
Hope that clears it up a bit…

I can’t believe people will sell a bike like that. I mean it’s wrong enough on cars, but a badly maintained bike is soooo dangerous!

Had a friend recently who was sold a bike with barely existant front pads (amongst other things) - worst of it was he was her bike instructor!!!

The bike has to have been sold in useable and safe condition, agree checking yourself is good but I never do, (and I know I should) I expect the dealer to have done it…and doesnt the dealer have to duty to do it…
