I have to thank two or three motorcyclists in Kingston for their help this morning. They saved me from a huge bloke wielding a crutch!
Instead of using the ktm today, I took my pedal bike in for some exercise. Just down from Kingston Gate, a car came past so closely that I thought I was going to be hit - less than two inches. I’m used to close shaves on the bike and motorbike, but this was really, really close.
At the top of the road, I tapped on the guys window and did a ‘what the hell’ and prepared just to ride on - no dramas, no-one hurt, when the guy swerved his car at me, stopping just inches away. Well, what the f’k?? I got off the bike and asked him what the hell he thought he was doing. His wife wound down the window and started shrieking at me and the bloke got out. Now, I’m not a huge guy, but I’m not tiny either, but when this guy stood up, it was like someone put the sun out. He looked enormous. Ok, this might be interesting. Then, he opened the rear door and took out a crutch, walked over and started beating the crap out of me with the damn thing.
Fortunately, I was wearing my crash hat (it’s now in bits) and that saved me from any real damage. I was able to grab the crutch and push it up into his windpipe to get him away from me. Then he jabbed a finger into my mouth and tried to tear my cheek. WTF!! I bit his finger as hard as I could and started looking for his bandaged foot to jump on with my cycling cleats when out of nowhere three bikers appeared and dragged the big fukker off me. Unfortunately, I was still biting onto his finger and ripped a good bit of flesh off - ugh.
So, the bikers really saved my ass. Thanks very much guys! One guy, Simon, hung around to take witness details. The other guys made sure we were safe and the big bloke disappeared while I was on the phone to the Police.
The Police rocked up pretty quickly. They came from the Richmond Park station. After taking statements and making sure I was ok, they decided to go off after the bloke. Simon had found out that the guy was going to the hospital - explaining the crutch - so they went looking for him. I went back home and got the ktm - much safer.
The Police phoned me later and told me that the guy had been arrested and bailed immediately so he could get his finger fixed up. I’ve got to get to SOCO tomorrow for an examination and detailing the damage to my crash hat and my smashed glasses - bloody Oakley prescriptions with Transitions lenses - cost a fortune - smashed to bits.
But a big thanks to the bikers for looking after me. I could have been in hospital without them.
