85 mph on a CBR 600

Today, A228 in Kent. It is a lovely Saturday with blue skies and pub-garden sunshine.

Two guys, both on what looked like Honda CBR 600 overtake my BMW at over 80mph. On a road full of pot holes and lorries.

Then I noticed they were both wearing jeans and T shirts.

I suppose it is their legs and they can do what they want… but is it right in 2010?

why what is the crime they are commiting by wearing jeans?

and how much do you think they should be TAXED?

The idea of making kit compulsory has been debated to death on the forum. Besides they could have been draggin jeans.

Did the bike look new? 85mph suggests that they were running it in.

I’m with Joby on this.

The rights and wrongs of riding gear, or lack of, have been done to death on this forum (and others) and there is no single answer.

I’m still firmly in the “don’t fall off” camp and if you can manage that, a pair of Y Fronts is all you need.

Myself? I prefer Cordura with body armour and decent boots. But what do I know? I’ve not fallen off for the last 40 years.

I almost reached a ton on my GS500 today but my hand got tired and I got bored.

Did pass two people on Speed Triples this afternoon, was odd cause you don’t see that many of them and then two going along together (and one arrived after I had been riding alongside the other for a long while so not connected).

One of the guys were wearing sneakers which I just can’t fathom, I ride in jeans, but sneakers, they are basically slippers.

CBR 600 cant attain even 70 mph, you deluded fantasist.

Take a bike aware counselling course or ask Joby for proof of your delusions.

You will thank us for our attempt to bring you back to reality.

Scooters ? Why were you going so slowly in your car ?

I wore jeans the other night, and you take a calculated risk that you’re not going to come off.
Go on to General, then soapbox. You’ll find an 8 page debate started by anne-marie about riding without leathers…

I will ride with or without, I draw the line at flip-flops though

Why? Has the risk increased substantially since 2009?

No. Things are meant to progress that’s all.

I Believe in free choice. I actually do not give a toss what anyone wears and the choice is the individuals own assessment of the risk. I recall the uproar when seat belts became a legal requirement.

Would you always wear a helmet if it wasn’t the law?

There’s certainly an uphill trend.

:D:D:D

i wear normal jeans, wich i have came off in twice…both times i landed on the same knee, no breaks just very bruised and abrasions, i wear leathers too…not come off in them…i have a textiles i rarely wear-use them for wet weather use, i have a pair of red routes i lived in them when i couriered in summer.

at the end of the day its yor choice, if you really really really want to be bored read ‘the riding without leathers’ thread;)

oh…i never ever ride in anything but Sidi’s or my Alpinestar Trainer boots, i liek my ankles!!

Yes, without a doubt.

+1 bees…wasps and other flying things hurt when thye hit you at speed! oh yeh and dark visors look kool!!:D:D

Actually was thinking about the head bursting open on the tarmac, but remembering the bumble bee hitting me at high speed. Yeah that smarts.

If your a mature adult it should be up to you to assess the level of risk and dress appropriately.Personally I dress according to the nature of the ride - if it’s a trip to the shops or a gentle hoon i’ll wear ordinary fashion type jeans with proper motorcycle boots (jeans over the boots - jeans tucked into boots looks twattish) and a textile jacket + light summer gloves.

If I know I’m going to be doing motorway type speeds or practising my cornering on the local twisties then it’s the armoured leather jacket, armoured textile trousers, back protector and gloves with knuckle protection etc.

I proposed a naked ride around London to raise awareness of motorcyclists once. I think everyone agreed that it was a good idea and I should do it. I don’t think anyone was going to join me though. Might be a laugh some Sunday afternoon…

Nice thought, but the roads would get slippery with the barf. :w00t:

The flip side to that is that when you’re young (not a mature adult) you feel invincible and don’t understand the risks. It’s only as you get older and often learn from your own mistakes, that you become able to assess the risks more accurately. Same for anything in life. So some guidance should be given.
