600cc Tourer?

Hi all,

Can anyone advise me on a 600cc tourer ? I’ve been looking at a number of bikes and had it narrowed down to a Bandit 1250 with fairing and a CBF1000. However, the insurance on these for me is insane thanks to the thieving Caravan Utilising Nomadic Traveling Sorts that made off with my old CBR.

As such, it looks like I need a 600 with a small fairing; I truly loathe long trips with no wind protection.

I used to have a CBF600 but it was a very uninspiring ride. I’m considering a hornet (pre-2007) with luggage, but I can’t find one with a fairing.

Is there anything else in this range that would make a good 2-up tourer?

Thanks,

GSX600F, but if you’re not looking for uninspiring you’ll probably be disappointed…

Fazer 600
Sv 650

Both good shouts, probably better than mine!

Thanks - I’ll look into the Fazer.

The SV is still a bit to ‘leaned over’ for my tastes for touring. I struggle for a full day with a pillion on my CBR, hence the look for something more upright.

thundercat

or the new divvey

transalp ?

ZZR600

Ooh - forgot about those - always quite fancied one! Let me check insewerants !

Fazer FZ6s2 is ideal. Just makes 100hp and has plenty of top end grunt for them tours.

Has some nice aftermarket lower fairings too. (like mine has fitted)

The 180 rear type helps with steady touring too.

BMW F650 GS (twin) or the new single

Had one of these and was great for touring

The ZZR is pretty close to the CBR600F in style and comfort. I can tour all day on the CBR on my own, but 2-up it gets uncomfortable pretty quickly.

I’m leaning towards the Fazer and the Transalp at the moment - prices on both are good and I can get insurance for under 700 on both. The transalp is slightly cheaper than the Fazer, and it’s also quite different to what I have now, so I will deffo try and get a test ride on one.

i didn’t find the pillion seat on my dads FZ6 comfy at all - there was no leg room.

Thanks for the heads-up; that’s a big concern for me, but I’ll be taking my wife with on any tests, so she’ll get the ride there on the CBR and the ride on whatever we’re looking at. So she’ll have recent comparisons available

A good two up 600cc tourer with a screen that’s cheap on insurance …

How about the Honda NT700V Deauville, OK it’s a 680cc V twin but I’m thinking it’s ticking most of your boxes. Insurance group 10  and 55+ mpg  pillion friendly

And there was me thinking you’d recommend the Bonneville…which probably wouldn’t be a bad shout really! (if the insurance is cheap-ish)

The only problem I had with the Deauville that I test drove was staying awake. It wasn’t the most of inspired rides I’ve ever had

I did like the shaft aspect for general maintenance, but I worried about it long term for bigger jobs from both a cost and difficulty perspective.

A Bonne’, why not indeed …

Very similar all round performance to the Honda NT700V and it’s insurance group 9

For touring just add a screen, some luggage and you may want to upgrade the seat.

Honda CBF600SA

A good all rounder and I did a Tour of Scotland on one,
