£4,500 for a crankshaft..

Ok it wasn’t for a bike but still thought it a bit expensive , spent this week rebuilding a 12 cylinder reciprocating compressor which is very similar to a bike or car engine. The drive end ( thrust ) main bearing had machined a nice 5mm rebate into the end of the crankshaft and the customer insisted on a new one rather than a repair and didn’t seem too bothered about the cost.
Possibly more suprising is that with the addition of 2 liners, 2 pistons, mains ,big ends ,gaskets and seals the cost was doubled and thats just the price to us !.
Should get it running on monday then start another one for same customer .

Anyone paid more for a single component ?

ok lets open it up a bit…the most expensive and/or cheapest single component you have ever bought and i,l buy the winner of the cheapest a drink at the lb party

Geez, 4,500k for a crankshaft! :w00t: mad.

Surely it would make sense to regrind the crank and get new shells?

My costliest single item has to be an Ohlins Shock. I can’t say how much as Mrs CM may read this;)
