The classic with the V4 engine receives a major update in 2014. With a new fork, a per-arm swingarm, new rims and a more modern design. The seat is now height adjustable, ABS and traction control are standard, optional heated grips. The turn signals have an automatic reset function. The bike was lighter by 13 kilos.
It’s almost as if the global recession has had a psychological effect on Honda’s styling department - rather than take risks with styling or showing any real flair and originality they are playing it safe and have retreated into bland dullness so as not to offend any potential customers.
Best styling turnaround in recent years in my opinion was at Kawasaki - they went from producing some pretty bland looking uninspiring bikes (zx7r was an exception) in the mid to late 90’s/early 2000’s to some really original, sharp styled machines - I think the ZX6R B1H kicked off the new styling regime in 2003 - after that we got a lot of interesting looking zx6rs - followed by the zx10r, the zzr1400, the z1000/750, the Versys (Versys was maybe a bit odd looking but still original and different) - all really tasty looking bikes showing real design flair and originality (first zx10r less so but later models made up for it).
only good looking Honda now, CBR ***RR’s excluded, is the 1200 VFR. this 800 version is a mild revamp of what was previously a better looking bike, they have succeeded in making the VFR800 look MORE boring than it did before!
