It’s not just about top speed, I had the 10 reading not far short of that :w00t: it’s about how it gets there, how it makes you feel whilst it does it. It’s like comparing a Mercedes S500 accelerating to 130 compared with a Civic Type R, the Civic woud be the car to have for fun, the noise, the character of the engine, the gearbox use etc, the S500 is probably a better car but it’s less involving and has less character, but far better for long distance and touring.
i would say the 600 is more like a civic sport not r and the zx10 was a new skyline.the 10 used properly would eat the 600,the only thing is a good rider would be able to make up time on the braking and out of the corners,as the speed would be less on 600 going into the corners and easier to get on the gas coming out, unless you are a riding god.the 10 is in a differant league to the 600 i know i have ridden both back to back, and the 10 took a bit of time to get used to the power after the 600.
I think that’s perhaps what they’re thinking (and what they’d like us to believe ) but have they all ridden the latest bikes ? I doubt it, I have heard all sorts of stuff about the early ZX10’s and how they’re mental and will kill you given half a chance and maybe that’s true, but it’s certainly not true of the current ZX10R, it’s a big pussy that piles on the speed well enough but doesn’t shout about it or make you tingle when it does it. Maybe to some people that’s good, those who have to race them perhaps, that’s what they want, but what I want is a damn good ride, I want the bike to make me feel alive and the latest ZX6 does that and the 10 doesn’t to the same degree. But I guess if going everywhere at 160 makes you feel alive then the 10 is the bike for you ;):PI think for the first time in my life I’m making a case for not having the very fastest vehicle I can get hold of. Maybe it’s the onset of middle age :(Then again the 10 does a quarter mile in 10.8s at a terminal speed of 140 mph and the 6 does it in 11.1s at 131mph, just 0.3s behind and doing 9 mph less . . . so roundabout to roundabout on the bypass, there’s not a lot in it . . . one fluffed gear change on the 10 and the 6 could win
My 999 makes just a bit more power than a modern IL4 600. The torque is so flat though, the 600 feels quicker. (The 600 IS quicker top end due to having a fairing).
I like the flat delivery, makes corner exits good. All the excitement is provided by the handling.
all 10s speedos are limited to 189…they wont read any higher…even if your going quicker…Got to say I have never ridden the 6 but the 10 does feel slower than my R1 but it clearly isnt. It is very very comfortable and damn easy to ride quickly, I just do not see the manic side of it or perhaps I just dont hammer it hard enough…note to myself must open the throttle harder…The hard suspension doesnt feel that hard now and I can honestly say she does feel very safe…brakes superb…Was out on it today, wheel spin for the first few miles as the tyres were cold then she was totally sweet. Had my first bit of head wagging today at some serious speeds caused by a few bumps but nothing untoward…and wheelies on power in second can be a real pain. I have taken to trying to stay in 3rd around the bends as the kick in second can really make the back twitch. She is without a doubt the sweetest litre bike I have ever ridden…I have never ridden a blade though. But to be fair I doubt it could be that much different to the 10 and you do get used to each bikes foibles…for me right now the ten is it…Go get one slarty
Hmm was gonna take it but doubt they will let me run…left the silencer at R&G’s who are doing a bit of design work on it and forgot to get it off them so it wont pass the noise test, …so it will have to be the R1…still re-building the 7…wont be long though and I hope to have my new exhaust design on the 10 in a few days…then she should be okay…
Excellent, somebody who can corroborate pretty much what I said ! So I didn’t forget to use full throttle then ;):PI think maybe the link Chunky posted to his question last year is relevant, maybe current bikes are too good at what they do ? Maybe a racer wants this but not sure it’s what I want. I’d like to try an older ZX10R, maybe a 2004 bike, see what it’s like, I bet it’s a bit more raw, maybe that’s what I’m looking for ?Very nice bike 2strokes, will certainly get you banned or locked up in double quick time
its why I love my old bikes…they are great fun, much harder to ride at slow speeds let alone herculean speeds and if you go too fast they just break so better to go slower…
I think this is best illustrated between the K6 and K7 versions of the GSX-R1000.
The K6 is the older, less reformed style that will punish you for being dumb like downshifting too fast or punching it in first gear.
The K7 is like a soccer mom version. It does everything the K6 does but much smoother and safer and ultimately not as thrilling.
I have to admit that with cruisers particularly the v-rod line are much better than the old and a lot more fun than a fat boy or something of similar styling.
