After having the DRZ 400 stolen the other week, I was thinking about replacing it with a crappy commuter, and then I realised I had completely forgotten that I own a 2008 GSX-R 750 that needs a “little” work doing to it to get it back on the road. With that in mind, I think I want to return it to life as my commuter.
As it has no bodywork on the front-end, I’m thinking it needs to become a streetfighter to make things cheap to repair. Does anyone know where the best place to look is for simple headlight clusters (bearing in mind, lighting isn’t a big deal in London) and perhaps raised bars to make it more comfortable?
the wiring is a pain, you still need the clocks, you have to drill the top yoke for riser’s its too nice a bike to fighter… water cooled bike never look good as fighters.
it will still get knicked…
track it or fix it up proper jay… or sell it to me so i can fix it up proper!!
i keep telling you iv got just the bike for you dude!! you can leave it anywhere, its bullet prof AND ITS A LAFF TO RIDE! 90 quid to insure.
its way faster than a gixer threw town, good steering lock and its only about 1 foot wide! ill swop you for the k8 lol
Benp1, it was out of action for six months and in storage. Just didn’t think it was an option, but I’m thinking about it as it’s just sitting there unused.
Adz, I know you’re probably right, but the bike’s just sitting there!
use the clip ons save drilling top yoke, electric/wires i know a good bloke in croydon who will make em dissapear properly.
believe me, i have taken a couple of bike to him cos i have fitted non standard headlight etc so the wires etc could not go in the back and when you get it back they are all gone, lol
that should look the nuts, maybe a honda cb1000r head light stick with the orignal tail etc the colours right black and redbut as others said you dont want it nicked or be a pride and joy and use as a hack though dam i like the look as it is now lol
by the way where do you get the knee grippers from, i had a quick look around but did nt find anyps. money no object stick a single sided swing arm on it with exhaust with no kat to match:)
I wouldn’t want to make it look nice, it would be a run-around, so leaving it tatty and odd looking would be preferable, not to mention it being the cheapest route to getting it back on the road.
I’ve got a headlight unit already (again, I forgot I had it, found in storage) which was destined for the DRZ but never made it. I’ll have a go at getting that on.
I’ve found a sub-frame on eBay, waiting for that to arrive. Not 100% sure it’s the right one when looking at the photo, but it was labelled as the right one, so if not, will go back.
This leaves a front-disc needed (couldn’t find anything second-hand on eBay, will try breakers). Would also look at bracing the coolant tank as I don’t think it’s strong enough to hold its own without the fairing.
