Probably to keep within the legal confines of a license?
Lee, pobably the best place to ask this question is someplace like R6-forum.com

ill try that forum
thanks

why not try looking for a lower cc bike until then and then sell it and get the R6 where it isnt restricted once your restriction is over ?

I have to agree, the R6 is not designed to be 33 HP or whatever the restricted limit is.
How about a Ninja 250R or similar, they are designed to be 33 HP.
Ive already got a Yamaha R125 but now i want an R6, dont really want to wait over a year to get one.
I went on the other forum but its American so no one could suggest places to get this done or where to buy in the uk
thanks
sell the 125 look for a 500cc or whatever the restricted licence covers have that for abit until u can touch the R6 and enjoy its full capability because you will be buying an R6 then paying to get it restricted then paying for the restriction to be removed whats the point be wasting cash.
Here you go
http://www.fiinternational.com/
A mate of mine did what you want to do and loved it. It was restricted in the throttle but worked
Fine. Don’t buy a small bike as you’ll have to deal with more weight and a larger size when you move up.
Doing it this way is better as you’ll know your bike and be ready for the full power. My Mates one never had any issues
being on 33bhp.

And then he’ll be paying the depreciation on the interim bike and the additional for the R6. Sounds like six and two threes to me.
Anyway, his money, his choice.
i know its his money and his choice was jsut giving some other ideas
I appreciate your input guys
yes I could keep the 125 but then when i sell it i could not get as much as selling now
i could get a iterim bike but like TheOc said, i would lose money there
i have wanted an R6 for ages and i love the look of them, if i get one now, yes it will be restricted then then i can gain a years experience on this size/weight of bike before it being de-restricted.
or i could go from a 125 straight to an R6 in a years time, pull the trottle back and go arse over head.
People have mentioned fiinternational and supposedly they are a rip off, someone suggested asking my local dynotesting centre (which i cannot find) for there suggestions, they may put some washers on it and, test it to see if its 33bhp and then print the certificate out.
i have alreasdy spoken to MCE and they said as long as i have put that its restricted on the insurance then i dont need to do anything else, obviously in the event off a crash i would need the print out, (which id have )
Also alot of people are slatting me for wanting to do this but i really want an R6, i dont care if its not full power, in a year it would be and if it costs me £400 to get it restricted and then de-restricted then so be it.
I really want an R6, plus in the insurance was only £500 and something so its not too bad
thanks
lee
Maybe a rip off but it gets you on the road legally with the bike you want so its a small price to pay.
I might be totally wrong here, but think the restriction washers are for carbed bikes only. No experience with fuel injected bikes, so can’t offer any advice, sorry.
Not sure what the R6 is like restricted, but if it’s anything like the Thundercat you won’t be missing the ‘extra’ horses. Will give you time to get used to the bike’s weight, handling etc and when you do remove the restrictor you’ll better appreciate the bike.
Yes, you do run the risk of ‘trouble’ by jumping from 125 to an R6 and giving too much wellie.
I moved from a RD50 to a GT750 (2-stroke kettle), everyone told me I was insane. That bike would very quickly tell you it wasn’t happy by breaking into a tank slap.
Good luck and enjoy
i think you maybe right but im not sure
all ive seen on ebay is washer kits but only for Carb engines
other than Fiinternational i cant find any
they cost 200 quid and ive been told they are a rip off. but i cant find any alternatives
anyone???
thanks
lee
I’m pretty sure that the restrictor kit on an FI R6 is a grub screw placed in the throttle grip.
the advice about the insurance certificate on it’s own is balderdash. If the cops catch you going too fast and think it’s unrestricted, they can impound your bike. If they find it’s unrestricted by testing then they can crush it, fine you and give you points too.
Yeah, the law requires a the power output be below a prescribed maximum, not that you have a piece of paper stating that. Apparently the bits of paper can be handy to avoid having to have the bike tested, but I can’t see enough controls over the distribution of these certificates (and tying them to the presence of a restrictor kit) to believe that the police take them at all seriously anyway.
I’m pretty sure the electronic yamaha’s restrictor kits are a new ECU; you certainly used to be able to buy a bar-mounted switch for going between your restricted ECU and unrestricted one.
2007 r6 was restricted on the throttle body not washers or ecu
You may keep saying £200 is a rip off but it isn’t getting you that lot any faster.
