2005 KTM Adventure 950S Stolen

Like it says. My bike was stolen Sunday afternoon in London, UK - crossposted in the Adventure/Offroad section too.

Being the slightly rarer Blue S model, I would appreciate it if anyone spots anything in parts or 2nd-hand bike sales.
It had a (very) high Renazco seat, BlackDog CW bash plate and Tim Hilsamer’s LongPegs.

Shitty end to what was a nice day really…
To some extent, I feel like a chump - I managed to tick most of the boxes in “how to get your bike stolen” - no chain, no alarm, London. The galling thing is I am normally very anal about it - I chain it up religiously or I don’t let it out of my sight. This afternoon, I was visiting friends - a bit of a lapse of my security regime - took their kids to the park… came back and it was gone.

Kinda screws my plans for Portugal at the end of the month…

UPDATE 1: It was datatool tagged - by the first owner - but the subscription lapsed before I bought it. Anyone know much about how datatool tagging works?
UPDATE 2: FWIW, it was taken from N1 4BT
UPDATE 3: Full list of distinguishing features after the photos

This is what she looked like…

List of distinguishing features/mods are:

Dent in front header pipe - visible from the front (from before I bought it)
No safety warning sticker on top glovebox
Renazco suede rally seat (2.5inch raise)
HilslamerLongPegs (long rally pegs)
Blackdog CycleworksBash Plate
Touratech rear brake guard
Touratech Folding rear brake pedal
Katoum luggage rack
Oxford Grips with temp control attached to right handguard & KTM TripMaster switch on Left Handlebar
Green Datatool Tagging sticker on the RHS of the Oil Tank. Many of the parts/panels have been Datatool Tagged.
Rear Luggage Racks
Black Zip-tie on the left hand fork (to keep track of stroke utilisation on my newly tuned suspension)
Superplush stickers on the forks and shock
Paintwork in pretty good order - apart from some flaking on the corners of the fairings near the dash
Bright ORANGE rear Spring (its a custom-wound 160N rear spring)

Keep an eye on ebay - those bits will be off quicker than anything I think. You never know those who stole it might just be stupid enough to ride it around.Fingers crossed for you.

I’ve put a post on www.xrv.org.uk - a big KTM section on there and people always looking for bits so there’s a chance the seat and stuff may be seen and flagged up

What’s the reg? I can’t see the photos when I’m looking at the site on this pc

so sorry to hear. best of luck finding it - clearly you were targeted or extremely unlucky.

Damn thats unlucky, just goes to show if you got a routine…STICK to it, hope it turns up

How many bikes get stolen these days in london? It seem like loads.
I hope it turns up for you fella & I keep my eyes out for it!

I dont think it was targeted - its the first time I parked in this area - I live miles away.

The worst part is that I didnt have a good feeling parking it there - but I didnt act on my instinct. It wasnt meant to be there that long… but there you go…

I keep an eye on stuff that comes up on ebay alread… and to be honest there are parts there that havent shifted in ages. I dont know there is that big a parts market…

Thanks. I will PM you the plate - but to be honest, I would be surprised if the original plate is still on it…

I have heard 45 thousand are stolen each year (cant remember if that is UK or London)

Mildmay area, not too far from me. I’ll keep an eye out for it. Judging by the location, I’d say it’s 50/50 joyridden and dumped or broken for parts.

sorry to hear that

Yup thats the area. Mildmay Street (near corner with Mildmay park)

The only consolation I have is that I have been keeping an eye out for parts for the past 8-9 months on ebay - not much stuff comes up - and what is there stays for ages unsold (there are a whole bunch of 2003 Adventure parts that have been there since like about May). I think there just arent enough of these bikes for there to be a big parts market…

The leading theory is that its ‘stored’ somewhere to be used as a getaway vehicle in a crime later on. A bunch of bikes have been found parked up and locked. They are often left to ‘cool off’ - in case the bike has a tracker or something…

Sorry to hear that hinny.

Please send me the VRM via pm and I’ll keep a look out at the pounds.

How well do you know the area? Have some suggestions of places to check out?

Well, one week on, still no sign. I know its only a bike - but its very gutting…

I am still hopeful it was stolen by chavs - the fact that it wasnt chained at the time & that it was the first time I had parked there (and its not a common place bikes are parked) and that it wasnt parked there very long very much suggests it was an opportunistic theft.

Ive ridden around a lot of the local estates & surrounding area - no sign of my bike - but did see two other out-of-place, possibly-stolen bikes and the remains of a stolen & stripped bike (all of which I reported).

If indeed it was a chav theft, they probably dont have the resources to ship them overseas - and the parts market here is very soft for these bikes. So, odds are they are going to sit on it for a few months before trying to shift it - once everyone has forgotten about it.

Hopefully, when they do, someone will spot it. Its big, tall, blue and orange - it should stand out…

I will buy a lifetimes supply of beer if you give the f**ker riding it a broken nose…
Not that I am advocating violence as a solution for bike-stealing parasites…

Oh, and by the way, it seems like KTM has become a known brand amongst the chavs.
Another chap in east london had his chained-up 525 supermoto stolen from his garage - they were pros.

If you know people with KTM’s warn them that they are big targets.

mooky its pants news m8 but you never know it might turn up:)

i have been hearing so many story’s of moto’s going around islington & west end:angry: some ppl are even being attacked by gangs while your on your bike.

i’ll keep a look out for ya big blue ktm:)

i know this area well…its knw for bike thefts, tho mainly scoots.

the youngsters have moved o from nicking vespa’s and gilera runners…now they target supermotos…or traily style bikes.

few weeks back i kid, in trackies and roof lid shot past my workplace while we was having a smoke outside, he was really going some, that was a KTM looked liek hoftys one an LC4, about a minute or later another comes past, same dress style but on a 125 vespa.

i did some research after hearing about few SM’s going missing, seems when they ahve been taken, a grey vespa has been used to ferry the thieves from bike to bike, infact several scoots have been known to appear round a parked motard!

i’ll keep an eye out for your bike too dude.

Mate Im really sorry to hear about your bike. I too have had mine taken in June so I know how you feel.
You should not HAVE to lock your bike up whenever you leave it.
They are scum and I hope they get whats coming to them…

SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR LOSS I KNOW HOW U FEEL BECAUSE IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME…THIS WILL NEVER STOP UNLESS THE GOV AND POLICE TAKE IT SERIOUSLY…

Police response has been mixed. A couple coppers on forums have been excellent - made sure pics got circulated in the morning briefing, etc. Another went round the area having a look on his own time. Lots of good advice on where to look, etc.
The assigned copper didnt know what a KTM was - and when I reported other out-of-place looking bikes (likely stolen) he wasnt interested enough to even get a precise location from me. (Fortunately, the other guys on the forums also got the info - and I am guessing it got looked into properly).

That said, its hard to criticise them for not being enthusiastic - the chances of recovery are very poor : 30%. The chances of an arrest a small fraction of that. And the chances of a conviction leading to any meaningful sentence - f-all! Its all a bit of a -up situation - but bike thieves mostly get let off with a slap on the wrist. First-time-offenders will just get a warning. I think the bastard has to get busted 3 times before getting any sentence - and then its probably only community service. Think how many bikes you have to steal before you will get caught 3 times with solid evidence. …
