130mph web video biker is jailed

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/oxfordshire/7679739.stm

The guy was a twat - and he should get punished - but I think sending him to jail is just silly - if he’d wiped out/injured someone then yes - send him to jail without a moments hesitation - but he didn’t - he was a 28 year old acting like a twat on his motorbike - end of. What if he becomes criminalised or starts using drugs in jail? Totally counter-productive.

Too draconian punishment in this case in my opinion.

agree Jail is totally pointless and not the answer, no idea if the guy was a twat or not but jail is not the answer, and nor is a 2 year ban…likely cause him to break the law inb the future or to have lost his edge when he nexrt rides a bike and gets himself seriously injured or worse…

Country is fooked, it is doing its, ‘making a statement to all of us bikers’ they are out to get us…this country has no idea about law and order any more…

in other news serial stealer of KTM’s from North london gets …errrrrrr…community service

we all ride liek a twat at times tho dont we?

i dont know eaxctly what matey has done…hes clearly a twat for admitting it to old bill and for filming it and putting it on youtube where he could be tracked and nabbed…

for that he is twat…but c’mon…who doesnt go over the ton…

If he was daft enough to put the evidence online he deserves everything he gets.

He told the police about the video…

Admitting wot he did and providing extra video evidence might be daft, but how does that mean he deservers everything he gets.

Compare his crime to the KTM thief, and how many peoples lives he’s affected, how is that a fair society. If the first sentence was to teach me a lesson as another bike rider, then am I not also taught that bike theft seems to pay (not that i would ever consider it).

I suspect more people on here have done the first crime (at least in part) than the KTM thieving.

i agree with above i bet all of you on here have gone well over 130mph before maybe not stupid enough to film it but we have all done it;)

actually i’ve never done it on a bike seen well over that in a car though;)

I just think this guy give us all a bad name and surely it affects the way police percive bikers either you are a genuine biker with passion or just a asshole like this guy!!

no sorry cant agree…it may give them an excuse for sure…it may give them the evidence to hang us with but that just show how pointless the law is…steal someones bike or car or committ burglary and you get community service, dare to speed and post it on a videa and your in jail…law in the UK is an ass…

I hope you have all learnt a lesson:

If you steal a bike then dont speed as that will land you in jail.

“It’s incredibly dangerous. A trophy video has been used on the internet and it could incite other road users to behave in the same way.” (quoting from the last paragraph )

so i suppose it’s ok for the police top post a video of them racing a along the A21 at over 140 mph , that won’t encourage anyone will it

double standards again , one law for them and another for the rest

Sorry i don’t get it, just because he was caught and filmed on a bike it makes us out to be trouble? What about the guy that filmed himself in the ferrari doing well over a ton and posted that on You Tube. Does that make all car drivers arse holes as well? (Don’t answer that)

So he was daft enough to get caught. So what. In the greater scheme of things its nothing, not like he killed anyone, anyway his wheelies were crap, needed locking up for them alone:)

Ok so a few have managed to get over 130mph and some just wish to sit on the fence and deny they have. The reality is i doubt anyone on here can happily hold their hand up and say they have never broken the law with regards to road use. Ok so we don’t all film ourselves (well some might but thats for a completely other reason) and then get caught. Its not like he has made a fuss about it and has taken the punishment. Agreed the law is arse about face and needs some continuity.

You never do 130 Pj…ya run out of fuel before it gets that fast

still you really have to be a numpty to film yourself and post in on you tube dont ya ?

you twist the throttle yous takes your chances we all know what we are doing and the potential reprucussions but jail the system has it all wrong, whats prison gonna prove, jack sh-it

This is the best reply yet!!

The bloke acted like an arshole and 12 weeks in jail sounds about right.

There are plenty of of opportunities to do that legally.

Ok, next job I get, I’ll tell the crew that we have to stick to the speed limit as Keith said so !!! :w00t: :rolleyes:Guys, I agree with some of what you’ve said about the disgusting inconsistancy of punishment dished out by the courts, but this guys wasn’t just speeding, he was on one wheel going through a junction, I never saw the full video so god knows what else he did.Jail … no, ban for a good couple of years and a corker of a fine, yep.

+1 to the highlightedSteve, my bike will be lucky to see 70 miles…before filling up again:D
