Thats madness!
wow lol…
obviously late for his paper round
a distrubed boy of 14…hormones coursing through his body changing his mood in an instant, he is already in a home due to a broken family…he is clearly distrubed and out of control…but 8 months in a detention center will do what…?..
teach him a lesson…oh yes I am sure of that,
make the planet a safer place, I doubt it,
turn this youth into a hardened criminal…highly likley…
no winners here, no one hurt but the boy himself and likely his future victims…no idea what we learn from this except what a cruel, unforgiving world we live in…
now thats a 110% true!
take him to a scene of a fatal road traffic accedent and make him see the reality of his actions, make him sick his little guts out! and **** himself for the next forseeable future everytime he closes he eyes
After recently loosing a mate for someone elses missjudgement this is enfuriating
I hope his parents gave him a beating when he got home.
Sorry boys but first he doesnt have any parents…for whatever reason the boy was in a home already.
He is 14 his world is three feet around him, that is it…
Showing a boy distrubing scenes at an accident smack of clockwork orange and have been shown to have little effect upon errant behaviour but can unsettle a child in ways that will manifest in later years as serious mental disturbances…ie necrophyllia (blowed if I know how to spell that). Not the answer…its why we have cencorship of violent and distrubing films and why children should not watch them…but so many do…
This boy needs help not imprisonment…he needs to have respect for people, his peers, he needs a roll model, he needs to learn to trust and respect society…jail will not do any of that…his new peers will be other juvenile delinquents…great roll models they will be.
I agree…unfortunately the system doesnt work and thats not what will happen.
trouble is what do we do…I think more freedom, less overpowering involvement by government and police and social services is part of the problem…give kids the freedom to make mistakes and ignore it…it will pass…dont push them into real crime and hatred of all things society…just my thoughts…
Crazy… only 8 month is great, will come out a harden criminal… sad sad world
I agree totally…I don’t know the full story but, from what I’ve read, locking him away or showing him mangled bodies is NOT the answer. It’s all too easy to judge these kids but I suspect few of us have gone through anything like what this kid must have done. Something needs to be done for these kids at a much earlier age than 14. I for one don’t have the answer.
I agree with 2strokes but there’s f*all chance of the law and judicial system changing to do anything about it and even less chance of society changing so we don’t produce kids like this anymore.
His role model is probably a 17 year old with ASBO’s, twoc’s (do they still call it that ?) and a string of minor theft and drug offences. I used to work with the police taking kids like this sailing and caving . . . they loved it, it was like two different people, when they came they were the hard street kids and when they’d been sailing for a few hours they were just like any other kid, just wanting a laugh and to feel part of a crowd.
I have a lot of problems with Magistrates, they almost invariably want to “do something” to punish kids like this but they don’t understand that the kids have often had a punishing life already, that’s all they know, compared to most of us anyway.
Too much to do to stay on my soapbox today !
I was with you up until “let kids make mistakes and ignore it… it will pass…”
Tell that to the parents of the kids they stab, or the families of those they crash into… hey they’re just being kids…
It ISN’T the kid to blame, its his guardians… WHOEVER they may be… if we want children to grow into the society WE perpetuate, then WE have to take responsibility for teaching them OUR way of life… including respect. If the guardians don’t get that message across, how are they going to learn it for themselves… telepathy?
THATS SO WRONG

A tad shallow maybe?

Totally agree with you there Toby… ![]()
Also, I am a strong believer in Compulsory Military Service. Go to university and get a job, or do two years national service! Trust me, the old cliche is true, it makes a man out of you! It instills discipline, responsibility and a sense of belonging to a group. Some of the things that are essential to becoming a grown man IMO…
Also, if a youth is nicked for stealing a car, send him to a boot camp style facility. Not all shouting etc… but more emphasis on the core values of team leadership, discipline and responsibility by actually treating them as adults and teaching them how to interact like normal people. Get them out on the assault courses, sailing and rock-climbing. Give them some feeling of self worth and belonging! And finally, get rid of the nanny state! Give parents the right to give their kids a smack on the backside or a clip around the ear! Didn’t do me any harm!
